Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Announces Gotham City Impostors

Critically Acclaimed Monolith Productions Shatters First-Person Shooter Model with Over-the-Top Gameplay Where Players Become Personalized Versions of The Bats and The Jokerz

BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Gotham City Impostors, an original download-only first-person shooter where players battle for control of an unhinged Gotham City overrun by impostors inspired by the DC Comics characters Batman and The Joker. Developed by Monolith Productions, the game will be available in the Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC and PlayStation®Network.

“Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before”

“Gotham City Impostors blows apart expectations for superhero games with an exaggerated take on first person shooters, set in a part of the DC Universe players have never seen before,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Monolith is creating a game that turns Gotham City upside down and we think fans are going to have a blast with this creative twist on multiplayer heroism and anti-heroism as they play up the classic rivalry between Batman and The Joker.”

Gotham City Impostors is a multiplayer game unlike any other, giving players the opportunity to rebel against conformity as they customize their own characters. Posing as amateur vigilantes or villains, gamers will create their very own Bats and Jokerz characters using unprecedented customization options including insane costumes, homebrewed gadgets and a wide range of traditional and imagined weapons.

The game will feature maps and modes inspired by DC Comics’ Batman license. Fans can visit www.GothamCityImpostors.com for more information and to sign up to receive updates regarding the game.

hardly one of the best devs out there, but they are good, and they know how to do combat (well, in the first FEAR at least). but an FPS is hardly the first thing you'd think of when someone said "batman" now is it? such a weird use of the license.

i wouldnt be surprised if they just slapped on the name in a hope to get more sales? because no-one with the batman license makes an FPS...not with everything else you could do with it....

strange.

What are you talking about bro? The combat in the pc version of FEAR is still the best!! the guns feel like real guns and its so much fun to blow up the environment, I think Killzone 2 lifted a lot of that from FEAR PC.

No One Lives Forever 2 is also one of the best single player FPS's out there. They are a great under appreciated developer

At first, I was like "Batman FPS....uhhhh...", then I read Monolith.

Interested? I don't know. Monolith needs a hit badly. Or are they dying?

Now now, no one said anything about a "batman fps" game, well at least until we hear more about.

From I read this is simply a spin-off game with random villains inspired by the DC universe set in Gotham City, with perhaps a random cameo of Batman and friends.

I got a bad feeling about this. We only have the logo so far but that looks ugly and budget. Not a great reveal.

It's fake Batmen (The Dark Knight) against Jokers, which were already in Batman Beyond. Thinking about it now, it could be like the asymmetrical competitive MP found in Splinter Cell. Melee guys with gadgets VS dudes with guns.

If it's like that, I'm optimistic.

That is...awesome! SOLD. The character designs are eye-catching. Nice to see a funny take on Batman lore. Thank god Monolith is going back to a cartoony art style from No One Lives Forever. This is going to be like Team Fortress 2.

I want to know who the hell was sitting around the board room table that pitched this idea, and it actually was given the green-light. Wow. Most obscure idea ever.
