As it is the norm at this time of year, let us wish you a happy new year, which will hopefully be more peaceful and less nerve-racking than the previous ones. A new year always begins with all the uncertainties that come with it, even more so when it comes to the very survival of the website. Rather than feeling sorry for ourselves, we prefer to approach 2023 with a hint of hope as we really intend to take advantage of all the extra time that will be granted to us to keep talking about video games in this privileged space that is Gamersyde. Even if we are very aware many of our users have left the building, we are proud of what we have achieved. In each article we write, there is always this same desire to provide work worthy of the games we cover. Motivation is not always easy to maintain, we admit it, with this increasingly significant impression that we are fighting against windmills, that we no longer really manage to capture enough interest. among you to deserve more open support. Despite everything, we plan on keeping up until the very end, which seems to us the least of things when you see what the professional video game press looks like in many countries these days. This small patch of land we still own may no longer attract much attention due to the lack of interest for video quality (and the absence of HQ trailers we truly suffer from), but for us what matters most it to still be able to put forward the work of thousands of studios in the best possible way. These people all work their asses off to offer us entertaining experiences that allow us to escape from our daily routines. It is to them and to our love for their work that we still owe our very existence as a gaming website, and we hope that we will still be able to give you HQ content for as long as we can, whether it is a few more weeks or months.

And hopefully the many decades to come. I'm not visiting Gamersyde much as of late because I'm very busy, which also means I'm not visiting gaming sites or even playing much lately.
Still, I hope GSY stays alive for years ad years to come. I understand that the lack of HQ trailers from publishers made many users leave the site, however the lack of a community is the biggest reason for not retaining users in my humble opinion.
I still remember many years ago when every article was full of energy, vitality and stupidity, which even the positive and the negative added to a sense of community, you knew who the PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and PC fans were and got to know their opinions.
We fought a lot back then, but regardless of all the bad stuff that brought, it was all driven by a very strong passion for games, which is the pillar of any healthy gaming community. As people started leaving, but new people didn't start comming - which I admit, is one of the bad sides of all that fighting, as they were afraid to post anything for fear of beinf attacked - the community slowly started dying. At least this is my impression.
I know GSY can't start doubling down on making UHQ content, as that would require a lot of time and effort - just think of Digital Foundry as an example and even them are struggling without more financial support - that the staff don't have, so it's hard to suggest a solution.
I don't know how feasible - if there is even a way to do it - or if companies wouldn't take issue with it, but a possible solution could be Artificial Intellegence Upscaling of video trailers. Which if possible for GSY to do it, it could allow GSY to get UHQ trailers back on the site.
I know it's most likely an extreme stretch, but I've witnesses some mind blowing stuff made with AI in the last months that I didn't think were possible. They mainly concern images and drawing, but some games' remasters have used AI upscaled CG videos - there's also a lot of fan videos with AI upscaled cutscenes of old games, which means it's at least possible on a technical level, though I have no idea of the costs, time requirements and resources involved. And if companies wouldn't take issue with this approach, which in my mind they shoudn't, as nothing other than the quality was altered.
Nvidia recently announced at CES 2023 a new RTX browser AI video upscaling technology called "RTX Video Super Resolution", which upscales 1080p videos to 4K resolution - like a DLSS or FSR for browsers' videos.

I'm just looking for solutions, though there might not be a feasible one and instead, I might just be grasping at straws. Regardless of the outcome, I hope Gamersyde can stay up for many years to come and I'm very thankful for all the hard work everyone has put into the site throughout the years and sincerely wish the very best to all of those who ever contributed to the site.
