GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One Switch

A Knight's Quest will be available on all systems later today and after playing the game for a few hours, we have what we could call a provisional verdict and 4K videos to share. Join us inside to find out what we think of this tribute to the action/adventure genre.

Verdict

A Knight's Quest is a pleasant game to play, but it does not have much personality as it mimics what a lot of cult classics did in the past. There's a bit of Zelda, Ratchet and Clank and even Monkey Island (the beach track is quite reminiscent of it), but it feels more like a tribute than anything else. Is it a problem? Depends on what you expect from such a title obviously, but the game also has a few issues: there is a bit too much backtracking, humor works most of the time but it's not always funny, combat could use more feedback and there are a bunch of optimization issues in some areas. Other than that, there is fun to be found in A Knight's Quest, with the new abilities you unlock which give you access to new areas, the nice puzzles you must solve and the world you're free to explore, just be aware of its shortcomings before you consider the purchase.
  • On the upside
  • A colorful game world which is nice to discover
  • Excellent soundtrack
  • The puzzles
  • A mix of different inspirations which works well
  • On the downside
  • Character design is questionable
  • The game should save more often
  • Relies too heavily on backtracking
  • Combat is a bit messy and lacks feedback
  • Deja

toelessfoot Right. I think programmable shaders were adopted fairly early on consoles (xbox360/ps3) (15 Hours ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite @toelessfoot: Well, only recently they have been. I think this is the first gen I've seen where PC's are playing catch up. Not through hardware power, but through development cycles (15 Hours ago)

  • toelessfoot

toelessfoot Yeah I think innovations on the console side are taken up more quickly by PC than vice versa because consoles are really lead platform for everything (18 Hours ago)

MrWhite At least for most gamers. Similar to when everything went to pci-e (1 Day ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite I think we could be seeing a dramatic shift in PC hardware where it'll be essential to own both an SSD and a next gen card with the api's to use them. That also would probably require new motherboards (1 Day ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite If a game is built from the ground up to take advantage of that, though... (1 Day ago)
