Turn10 released this single image of Forza Motorsport 2, from the demo that they put together for X06 next week. It really looks better and better for each week passing!

Edit: Being the first poster, I thought I'd throw in this useful link which someone posted on second page, showcasing how much better Forza 2 looks than PGR3.

Once they get the self shadowing in there and tune up to get rid of some of the jaggies then it will look amazing

they said the X06 build may well have the self shadowing switched on.. will xboxyde.com be at X06 to get us some great video coverage?

NOT looking good yet. That's still not better looking than PGR3.

Reflections have this nasty aliasing, and the road textures look very average. Other than that, the game doesn't have self shadowing, the lighting is still kind of bland, and it's not yet running at 60fps. On another note, the point to point races have been removed so we are basically going to have the same amount of tracks as in the first Forza...........AND on top of all that, it has been delayed to the first quarter of 2007. So yes, it's all bad news.

Well, ONE good bit of news. A demo will be released on Live.......until the holidays, whenever that is.

Still not better than PGR3, but modeling is amazing(look at the headlight it's not texture but 3d poly) If they add 4xAA and hires texture as they said and make it run at 60fps, Forza 2 is gonna own PGR3 or GTHD.

Let's hope so.

Before judgeing, I'll wait to see it in motion.

Models are still not as good as PGR3 and WILL NOT be. Forza is putting 12 cars instead of 8 per race, and PGR3 cars are made up of DOULBE the amount of polygons.

Of course, the interior makes the model look a whole lot better, but the exterior is still looking better in PGR3.

Reflections have have no AA ;) this is what 4x AA looks like btw.

It indeed looks better and better. And about the cars polygoncount, that's about on the same level as PGR3 ;) 40k for the outside. PGR3 had this also ~40k outside and 40k for the inside.

Anyway, in direct feeds PGR3 looks about the same, so I think this will end up on par with PGR3.

And remember this is 720p @ 60fps, while PGR3 was 600p and 30 FPS.

This sucks that we are getting so little content from M$ this week. But maybe it is a good thing that X06 is next week and M$ wisely leaving TGS to Sony. Hopefully next week we can finally see some playables of this game and a few others I am hoping to get some news on.

Alan Wake is at the top of my list.

Actually in PGR3 it is not clear whether the numbers the gave were just for the exteriors or the entire model.

they havnt left tgs to sony they have had games there that are relevant to that market and it seemed to work with queues at many of the games

makes total sense anyway the whole of the gaming press will be focusing on MS at X06..

No, if you checked out their website you would know that this shot is taken from the current X06 build. Also, to those people quoting polygon numbers, since when did a number decide if something LOOKS better or not? There is a whole heap more to 3D rendering now than purely polygon numbers.

The game is still far from complete and will look stunning when finished. I hope, after the panic that we saw upon the release of the first screenshots that they hold back a demo until this game is 100% complete, it seems that the average game isn't ready for anything else.

Game journalists are given access to preview builds because they understand not to make knee jerk reactions based on unfinished work. If I were part of the Forza team, no way would I let the general public near an unfinished preview after the crap they had to endure a few weeks ago.

LOL, I agree with you there . . . but then if they hype it and don't show it, they'll get ripped apart 'cause it seems as though they've got something to hide, so it's a double-edged sword really. But it's like anything else, books, movies, etc. When you're in an business where your clientele like to think of themselves as industry connoisseurs (otherwise known as armchair critics, or 'hardcore' fans), it's a risk you gotta take.

Pics look good BTW, and there's still plenty of time for polish.

it's not just poly's that make these things look good. its all the effects and textures. This game doens't have to have as many poly's as PGR3 to look as good or better. infact, many might argue that the poly's in PGR3 were overkill....

aside from the jaggies and the tires, this looks pretty good. weird camera angle IMO...

Only when rendering at a higher resolution than the actual screen resolution makes sense. I doubt that will happen any time soon.. there wont be 30% of excess power to waste now or in the near future.

Though, SD users could get to enjoy supersampling like that. As far as I understood PGR3 renders at a higher res then downscales for SD and superimposes the gui over the image. (native res is same for both SD and HD, as in neither.. a compromise of 1024x600)

So with that logic, when cinema hd 4048xnnnn resolution hits gaming, we hobos with our 1080p "HD" can get to enjoy downscaled supersampling :D

Though there are some ways Turn10 can tidy up the reflections, but all of those methods involve making them blurrier and less precise.
