GSY Video PC

Today Crytek released a benchmark dedicated to Ray Tracing. It's called Neon Noir Ray Tracing Benchmark and you need to open a Crytek account to download it with their own launcher. It's a very short benchmark (1min30) but it's still gorgeous as you're about to find out. With our configuration (i9 9900K @ 4.9Ghz & RTX 2080Ti), the benchmark remains above 100 fps when set to ultra in 1440p while 4K ultra struggles a bit more with around 40 fps. In 4k and very high settings, framerate stays between 55 and 60 fps, which isn't bad at all considering how great it looks. Check out our videos and let us know what you think.

Much appreciated, thanks! The hurdles for running it (4 GB download, Crytek account, potent hardware) are too steep for me compared to downloading your capture so this is great! Does it have any interactive features?

Thanks for the videos. They both look gorgeous. Hopefully, in 5-8 years we start getting most games using Ray Tracing technology on PC. Since PS5/XB4 will have RT support on hardware, that will give a huge boost to the technology and won't require devs to make it just for PC. Also, I'm sure PS6/XB5 will have even better RT when they come out, so it's a technology that's here to stay and will only get better - both in look and performance - as time goes on.

PS. This demo gave me an insane Deus Ex vibe. Love the series.

toelessfoot Right. I think programmable shaders were adopted fairly early on consoles (xbox360/ps3) (3 Days ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite @toelessfoot: Well, only recently they have been. I think this is the first gen I've seen where PC's are playing catch up. Not through hardware power, but through development cycles (3 Days ago)

  • toelessfoot

toelessfoot Yeah I think innovations on the console side are taken up more quickly by PC than vice versa because consoles are really lead platform for everything (3 Days ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite At least for most gamers. Similar to when everything went to pci-e (4 Days ago)

  • MrWhite

MrWhite I think we could be seeing a dramatic shift in PC hardware where it'll be essential to own both an SSD and a next gen card with the api's to use them. That also would probably require new motherboards (4 Days ago)

MrWhite If a game is built from the ground up to take advantage of that, though... (4 Days ago)
