Actually last years version was a disappointment. It was the same exact game as the Xbox game, only with sweat and hi-res. The coach and anything sideline looked horrendous. NBA Live had more of an upgrade from the Xbox to the Xbox360 as far as visuals. I never liked anything EA until they moved into the next gen. I hope NBA 2K7 takes back the crown.
Anyone can make a normal sports game. I will give someone props when they do something ORIGINAL and make a fun 3rd person sports game (besides love football). At least it might actually be fun to play. Plus, basketball is pretty much lame, just like every other team sport out there.
They say seeing is believing, so I'll wait until I rent it before I buy in to any hype. Last years game, all the screen shots and renders were awsome. And every review was talking about how nice the player models were, and how next-gen (i hate that term) it was. When I finally got a 360 and popped the game in, I was disgusted by the apearance of the players. Everyone looked like monsters....monsters with extremly smooth skin. 2K sports must have really liked the smart blur effect.
It seemed like they really phoned it in. I actually had a preference towards the plastic models in NBA Live... Just as opposed to nba 2k6.
Sorry for the rant. This was my fist (of many) dissapointments on a very good xbox 360 platform.
Looks rather good, but the resolution, color dithering and lack of motion blur or other fancy effects is cause for concern (concern that they dont have all the tools and talents they should have).
I'd say potentially the best looking NBA game yet, but we'll see.
