Trailer PS4

Following the announcement that Nioh will also get a Western release on PlayStation 4, here is the very high quality (80Mbps) trailer at 60fps that we got along with screenshots showing how the dark action-RPG from Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja looks like.

KOEI TECMO AND SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA LLC. ANNOUNCE WESTERN RELEASE OF NIOH
EXCLUSIVELY ON PLAYSTATION®4

Epic Samurai-centric Action RPG Combines All-Star Talents of
Kou Shibusawa, Hisashi Koinuma, and Team NINJA

Hertfordshire, 07 December 2015 – At the recent PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco, CA, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and KOEI TECMO announced that Nioh, a dark, samurai-centric action RPG, will be coming to the west exclusively for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system. Nioh has been in development under the direction of Kou Shibusawa, Hisashi Koinuma, and Team NINJA.

In Nioh, players will traverse war-torn Japan as William, a blonde-haired swordsman whose background as a fierce warrior and seasoned knowledge of the blade allows him to survive in the demon-plagued land of the samurai. Known as Yokai, these demons inhabit a number of dangerous locations and lie in wait in the shadows to ambush unsuspecting victims. Players will also face off with other samurai in supernatural sword battles and intense, multi-target engagements offering a level of difficulty that will truly test even the most hardened samurai’s skills, patience, and strategy.

Offering a deep and original storyline that takes place during the Warring States Period of Japanese history alongside strategic sword-fighting action, Nioh will challenge players in a way that makes every mission and accomplishment feel earned and worthwhile. More information on this comprehensive, action-packed RPG experience will be released in the coming months.

Loved what I saw of the battle system, it feels very fast paced, but also tactical like Bloodborne's battle system - not implying it's on the same level, only that the former reminded me of the latter.

I hope Team Ninja delivers on Nioh, their last games haven't been much to speak of, with the worst offender being that Z game with Ryu Hayabusa's "nemesis" ninja that shall not be named in respect of Ninja Gaiden fans.

Character looks so japanese!

Real talk: looks meh.
Why didnt they make him look more japanese and samurai like?
I expected him to look like this

Interms of gameplay, its faster and more stylish which is TN for sure, but it has stamina based combat so i am not that big of a fan of it.
At first i was hyped but after playing Dark Souls for a week by trying to get into the combat style, it changed my view on it.

I dont know, maybe if one of my friends buy it and then he can gameshare it with me lol
For now i am 50/50 on it.

PS. Why didnt they add Ninja Gaiden's decpatiation engine in this game? it would be so damn visceral and satistfying.

Because he is not Japanese, he is William Adams, an Englishman.

Have you ever seen Sword of the Stranger (IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1121794/ )? To me, it's the best Samurai anime and both main warriors are foreigners.

The main character was not Japanese he had to dye his hair to avoid sticking out. He was a foreigner like the main foe.

this's Tecom's answer to Dark Souls, I want to see what Sega and Capcom can do, the Japanese are good at this genre/style.

I love it! And the main character is a foreigner, try to remember the part about he dying his hair black, because it's red. And how the whole process uses that thing that stinks a lot, at which point he mentions he only does that to fit in.

A huge part of the story is how both the Japanese and Chinese used these foreign people as warriors to fight their battles. With neither Japan nor China coming out as the "good guys". In the end, they both fought not for nationality or because they were ordered to, but because of what they believed in and because it's something they wanted to do for their own reasons.

While it's never revealed, I believe the blonde guy is from Russia and Nanashi is from Ireland. Though it's only my speculation.

I hope that the revelation of the main character being a foreigner doesn't make the anime less in your eyes.

PS. "melodeon" beat me to it, only saw his/her message after posting mine.

Sanada Hiroyuki, my favourite japanese actor. Great choice. For me....I don´t understand, why there always have to be some zombies and shit, when it comes to samurai games. I want something purely about swordfighting, nice graphics and not some stupid jumps and rolls and ridiculous movements. Just samurai game with a nice story and music like mix of traditional and something like from Tasogare Seibei.

I still love his past works, specially Tasogare Seibei (The Twilight Samurai), but after seeing his acting in both Helix and Extant, in which he acted extremely poorly, I lost some faith in his acting skills. He also acted badly, though not much, in The Wolverine.

To be fair, those shows were bad, but his acting was even worse than the other actors. Not sure if Sanada has problems with acting in foreign movies and TV shows as a non-Japanese, since when acting in Japanese movies or portraying Samurais, he nails it. But that's how it looked to me.

Just a reminder of how much we need Onimusha. This has potential but I'm skeptical. Looks like the heads pop off ever time...even with an arrow?

Yes...You are right. I don't remember, if I somehow found his skill lacking in Wolverine movie, but maybe You are right about foreign movies and his roles. Anyway....I mainly love his older and japanese movies only. I think he is true successor to Mifune Toshiro. Even his movies are not that super action, it's a joy to watch it. BTW he is one of the reasons why I liked Last Samurai movie with Tom Cruise. In fact...there are three reasons. Sanada, most realistic ninjas attack I've seen so far (IMO) and the music.
