First 10 minutes Xbox 360 PS3

After IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey, 505 Games are back with a new title, Birds of Steel. As you can imagine if you are familiar with their previous game, flying WW2 planes require some getting used to, especially if you choose to play in full simulation mode. Sure, there are other modes to choose from, depending on the level of flying assist you want to use. This new game is without a doubt aimed at hard core fans, but it is definitely worth checking out if the Ace Combt series isn't realistic enough to your liking. Here are a bunch of videos we captured from the Xbox 360 version.

Will there be coop? I had a number of friends interested in IL-2 for the 360 but with no coop in the missions none of us ended up getting it.

I'll ask Ghost when he returns.

About the co-op does not know, the split-screen definitly not. But control has improved, as they say. You can set almost everything from the radiator and the flap to the pitch and enrich the fuel mixture. Through a combination of keys. So now you can play in "simulator mode" without neuroses.

I did some reading up on Birds of Steel: Yes, it has coop missions. Supposedly there are quite a few.

It has reviewed well (8.5 from IGN with the text of the review being glowing). It has a full Pacific theater campaign as well as a very long list of individual missions in the Pacific and Europe. It also has a very in-depth mission editor. 16 player online, 4 player coop. Great graphics and sound. Arcade, Realism, and Simulation flying modes, etc. I summarized it here: http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1629824&p...

Sounds great. Amazon has it for $40. Bummer on the no split screen though. If I had friends with this I would jump in as it looks like a great game.

Does it support Track IR? I know the Giantbomb dudes are eagerly awaiting this, and I am their Quick Look of it! :D

Tracker IR isn't a console product iirc. That said it would have been nice to see Kinect support for the cockpit views.

This doesn't even have Kinect support? That sucks, seems like the perfect game for it with controller + Kinect. Steel Battalion will be using that model.

This game is close, as ever, to the super simulator IL-2. And SteelBattalion is stupid arcade on aviation theme.

I found out "Birds of Steel" is made by the same devs as IL-2: Birds of Prey. This is also the dev making the PC "World of Planes" MMO. So yeah, this is developed by a good group of developers. Basically they are fixing a lot of the issues in IL-2 on the consoles.

I would like to get this but I want a demo. IL2's controls didn't sit well with me in that the arcade mode really had messed up placement of the yaw and normal/southpaw. I like how DICE did the layouts in BF1943.

Your comment has me super excited. I don't think I have EVER been interested in a flight sim on consoles, but I would love it if this even came remotely close to IL-2.

To be honest, the physics and gameplay actually look a LOT like Pacific Fighters, which was the unofficial sequel to IL-2. Although it wasn't as good, I still played that game for years. I could spend hours on end just perfecting carrier landings on simulator mode. I had no idea this game was even coming out, much less tomorrow!!!

Dumb question, but are these videos from the PS3 or 360 version? With all the controls over the camera, and advanced flight controls, it seems hard to believe this isn't being played with a keyboard and mouse or at the least a flight stick.

Why not ask nicely, pretty please, with sugar on top, to the kind gent Ghost Deus to take such a video?

If that is too much he can send the review copy my way and I will send you some shaky cam footage :P

Just played the demo, and it sealed the deal for me! One of the best examples of a developer actually making a demo the way it should be done. Good variety of missions and gameplay, no time limit, allow the player to explore all the options and potential without allowing too much freedom. Amazing game for flight sim junkies like myself.

Anyone who has played pacific fighters for PC will know that this is basically the same game with a few updates, but I don't care. I have always wanted a WWII flight sim on console, and after tons of disappointments, this is the one. I urge anyone who has any interest in flight sims to give it a go. For $40 bucks you can't go wrong here!

looks awesome, I have both their previous games on Steam but haven't installed them yet. Too bad their last Apache game never came to Steam, I really wanted to check it out.

Looking forward to this though, reminds me of the good old days of Battlefield 1942. :)
