GSY Video PS5 Xbox Series X PC PS4 Xbox One

Elden Ring has been out for a month now and aside from all the praises the game deserves, many journalists failed to mention the performance issues that plague all possible versions of the game. In the following video, we're trying to show you how From Software's latest diamond in the rough performs on Playstation 5 in its two graphics modes and when running the PS4 app via backward compatibility. Unsurprising, the only version we can enjoy is the latter, even though framerate doesn't remain perfectly steady either when you get past the castle and reach certain areas.

I really love Elden Ring - 40+ hours in. However the technical issues are bad, specially at launch. Even though it has received some patches, none of them addressed the performance issues, at least not on PC, though consoles seem to be no different.

From Software makes some of the best games, no one can deny that. However, as great as their games are, they are equally as bad technical wise. Dark Souls 1 launched 11 years ago and they still haven't learned how to release games without performance issues.

I hope after Elden Ring, From Software hires better programmers who know how to work with engines and properly optimize games. They sold over 12 million - well past that now - copies of Elden Ring, they already have the money and there's no excuse to have "Blighttown - The Game" in 2022.

how's the fan noise on ps5? my ps4 pro is kinda loud.

on the topic of FS programmers, I feel like they might be friends of Miyazaki and he refuses to replace them. i wont criticize him if thats the case.

I understand and that may be the case indeed, in Japan, when co-workers go to drink after a long day of work, it's extremely impolite to refuse to go with them, if they ask. Different culture and all that. So Miyazaki might well be friends with the programmers, if they've worked there for many years.

However, it's still a business and in-line with Japan's culture of serving the best service and product for the customers, it has reached a point where most people lost the patience to overlook the technical issues after doing it so many times already.

Of course, it's From Software's games and they can release them in whatever technical state they want, but the public - specially now that their games are becoming more and more successful - is starting to backlash against these issues. They're no longer an indie studio, of which their games only sell 1-2 million copies.

For better or worse, From Software is a AAA studio now and they have a responsibility to release their games in the best state possible. I love their games, but like Digital Foundry said, it's unaccepatble that they are still releasing games in this state after all these years.

It is ok. The time of a jet engine is finaly over.

I got several performance issues and bugs too. Maybe BluePoint Games makes a remake some day :D

I don't have either consoles, but i've played on a Series X a few times and it was really quiet. I imagined the PS5 would be similar. If coil whine is a common thing with the PS5 i think i'll wait till they do an internal redesign/process shrink before getting one as i find coil whine far more distracting than fan noise.

Yes, PS5 version is poor show (micro stutters all the time). PS4 version runs very well on PS5 and I play it this way but those who bought physical PS5 version are screwed with no option to switch. I hope From will fix it but based on their history I will not hold my breath.
