I was going to get either Brutal Legend or Demon's Souls for my Oct purchase, but now I'm seriously starting to thinking about OF2. Can anyone talk me out of this, or is this game going to be as good as the developers make it sound?

The only two things I have concerns about here are fairly superficial: the environment(s) may not vary enough, especially if it all takes place on one remote island in Alaska (no urban, no snow, no jungle, etc), and the animations look a bit stiff and robotic. I wasn't a bit fan of KZ2, but one of the things that really made that game come alive were the animations, so I'm afraid that, despite all the wonderful environmental effects, its going to feel like your fighting with and killing robots.

I am still not sure about this game. It has alot of promise, and looks pretty solid.
But could fall flat if the controls are weak or the A.I. doesn't hold up...

I am going to wait for reviews.

Positive review... but only 4vs.4... really... is 2009? They can't squeeze more players into the game?

Official Xbox mag: 8/10
Random others around 8 - 10

They all note that the AI is deadly, and the game is as realistic as possible. The only downside comes from a dodgy checkpoint system and smoke that is bit flat for their liking.
Also get the PC version, because the graphics will be significantly improved in foliage and AA, assuming you have a mainstream pc of course.

sounds good.

It'll be Xbox for me, as I don't have a capable PC but I always much prefer playing on my Xbox, keyboards are generally too fiddly for me...

Funny that they critic the smoke when you have a video here talking about the work thats gone into the different smoke effects

I dont really expect more than an 8 from the review sites. Its still a game i want.. unless theres something really broken with the 360 version i'll be getting it

WTF? I had to read the review cuz I didn't believe you that it would only be 4-on-4. Any word on the PC verson for on-line? The review only mentions the console versions' online options.

11 missions? I hope they're at least an 1 or 2 long each, or else this game could end up feeling very short. But the challenge perhaps means that you'll be trying areas over and over again with different tactics.

Speaking of tactics, you can control troops over a 1km area? How many troops are going to be in the battle?

Perhaps this is the reason for the 4-on-4? If they wanted to populate the battlefield with, say, 100s of soldiers, you likely couldn't get that many together without lag (let's see if MAG does it) and since many people only play within squads these days, perhaps they said, "Let's give the player what they primarily use, a 4-soldier squad," and let the AI handle the other untold numbers of soldiers. I mean, I only care if my squad-mates are human, since they can help me out better, and I don't really care if they guys on the other side of the map are real humans or not. They're just background noise/action at the point. But, then again, when it comes to my opponents, it can make a big difference in the way I play and think about the game. http://arstechnica.com/science/news/2009/02/humans...

I don't want to have to fight through dozens of bots just to frag another human player. So, in conclusion if they limited the number of on-line players for more large scale battles using bots, I don't mind them on my team (outside my squad). But the enemy AI better be good, to make up for the loss of being able to beat another human player, which feels infinitely better than beating a computer. But in the end, if the enemy AI is that good, then why didn't they just go for a L4D style of co-op, four against the CPU? Why have 4+(x)AIs VS 4+(x)AIs?

Still, I'm thinking of picking this up just for the single player experience anyway and if on-line is good, bonus.

EDIT: How come Amazon says this: Multiplayer options that include co-op gameplay as well as 16-player mutiplayer online via PlayStation Network. 4-on-4 is not 16....

32 players I believe.. and if it's anything like most PC games, that's more of a recommendation than a restriction.

Apperantly each mission is 90 minutes give or take...

Uh.. they have... you can do full 4 player co-op.

For both the console and the PC there is 4 player full campaign coop.

For the console you have 4v4 multiplayer, each player will have control of 3 AI squad members, so that makes 32 soldiers on the field.

For PC its 16v16 multiplayer, which is divided into 4 squads a side (can have AI squad members).
