BF: Bad Company still has the best sound of any war game I've played. I really wish more developers would use sound the way DICE did in that game.

If you take a gander at the recent "Fear and Anticipation" trailer for OpFlash 2, you'll already know that Bad Company already has a rival in terms of sound realism and subtlety. Supposedly the sound is in-game, and has some of the most convincing and realistic sound effects and voiceovers I've heard in a game, period.

That's the difference between innovators and imitators. Dice is always trying to break new grounds: BF1942 huge maps, lots of vehicles, 64 players. BF2 ranking system, squad system (both copied by CoD and Resistance), Mirror's Edge: awesome first person platforming, Bad Company, destructible environments and bringing the BF2 experience to consoles.

They use something called HD audio, I tried to read some of the technical notes they released back during GDC, its pretty complex stuff :P anyway Dice @%!@%@ rules! One of the best developers out there.

looking good.. though i'm not keen on all that fog.. hopefully it was just for that particular level.

Certainly has a better frame rate than Arma 2 (which looks like a slide show in most of the footage shown of it), i just hope codemasters stick with giving us an editor like the Arma guys did with the first flashpoint.

I'm guessing this video is from the console versions though... Some of the textures look horrible and the draw distance is shit even without the fog...

They better step their game up with the PC visuals or else even ARMA II will top this.....

yeah brilliant use of audio occlusion, an effect to simulate sound waves travelling around objects in the environment and high dynamic range audio really comes to life in surround

The devs are actually working very hard on the sound, so I'm not too worried about that, and the visuals are actually improving quite a bit. I don't see how people can say its bad unless you have stupidly high standards.

First thing that came to mind. After playing Bad Company and 1943, everything else just sound like shit. Codemasters promised that OF2 would have some beefy weapon effects, in terms of physics but also audio effects. But it doesn't seem like they'll follow up on that promise after watching these videos.

It'll take some time until other devs catch up on the sound design of the BF games. And it's not like they aren't improving on it either. 1943 sounds even better than BC and I certainly can't wait to hear BC2, it has become the highlight of the series to me. On OF2: It looks good, no buy for me though, there are too many war games coming this fall.

First day buy for me. Been loving ARMA II, and this looks set to be perhaps a little shorter in scope, but much glossier outing.

Going to be a busy year :S

  • Melmoth

Melmoth In many ways it gave me a Last of Us vibe. Well written, strong voice actors and presentation, but the gameplay didn't hit the spot for me. I can still understand why so many people like those games (10 Hours ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth the vista by running it in 21:9 aspect ration (even though i have a 16:9 tv), which gives more picture information on both sides and worked well for the horizontal design of the level design. (10 Hours ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth Having the close over-the-shoulder camera works great for the seamless-camera style presentation they went for, but it's problematic for spacial awareness in larger fights. It did help a bit to widen. (10 Hours ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth The mostly two-dimensional level design and not-as-sharp combat combined with a lot of polished animated auto-platforming and transitions made it good, just not a great gaming experience for me. (10 Hours ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth to play it. There's no doubt an enormous amount of work put into all the small details and craftmansship in all assets of the game. Very polished presentation. But coming straight off Sekiro, the game (10 Hours ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth @Sdarts: I had a very similar experience. I got it for PC on release. I already had the game on PS4 for a few years, but still shrinkwrapped. So i thought the high quality PC release was a good way.. (10 Hours ago)

  • Sdarts

Sdarts Anyway, just my stupid opinion and it's not meant to be an attack or hurt anyone, I just had a 8/10 experience. That is all. Though the game does have serious flaws. (1 Day ago)
