GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

Borderlands 3 is now out so we were finally able to record some gameplay footage this morning. Sadly, there seems to have been a sort of bug with the game as it was not running in 4K (full screen) as we had selected, but in an odd 2194*1234 resolution. That's why today's videos can't be streamed above 1080p. Rest assured that we'll add higher quality footage as soon as we can, but you should be aware that our RTX 2080 Ti cannot run the game at 60 fps in 4K when fully maxed out. We've found that lowering the volumetric fog setting to medium seems to do the trick, with minimum visual impact. We used DirectX 12 to record our footage but it's still in beta phase and it causes particularly long loading screens (launching the game takes forever), so you should probably stick to DirectX 11 for now.
Update: 4K video added. All graphics settings maxed out except for volumetric fog set to medium, but we still had a few drops here and there.

Yeah, the game has a lot of technical issues atm. Many people reporting all sorts of bugs with the game. Which unfortunately is to be expected for AAA game at launch nowadays. The game is still very fun and great for those who missed the franchise.

Unfortunately, yes. Control, Gears 5 and now Borderlands 3, these games would have benefitted greatly from 1-2 more month(s) of dvelopment. Buying AAA games at launch has been a very bad deal for many years now, better to wait for heavily patched versions with additional content and lower price down the line.

Thankfully most people have backcatalogs to last them for years. And if people are really exxcited about a game, wait for reviews and other users' experiences with performance and bugs.

Below is an article and two threads from the Borderlands Reddit:

EuroGamer - Borderlands 3 is suffering from a raft of technical issues at launch - And players are turning to the Borderlands 2 Steam page for help.:
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2019-09-14-bord...

Epic exclusive Borderlands 3 players turning to Steam's Borderlands 2 forums for support is really, really hillarious and sad at the same time.

Borderlands 3 Problem/Bug megathread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Borderlands/comments/d3fx...

The top comment in the above thread: "Matchmaking put me into the game of a person farther ahead in the story than me. Upon joining, all the quests they completed became completed on my character too. All the voicelines from those story missions played all at once.

I missed out on a ton of story and had to restart my character because of this."

YIKES!!! Then someone asks: "Wow, how the hell did that get past QA?" and someone else answers: "How the hell did most of this make it past QA. Even things as straightforward as text size is messed up."

Then there's:

Unpopular Opinion: These sorts of performance issues are completely unacceptable and have soured my excited for the game.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Borderlands/comments/d47k...

"The amount of people that are experiencing issues with terrible performance is inexcusable, coupled with the fact that it seems like they cherry picked reviewers so this issue didn't get light shed upon it makes this entire situation feel incredibly tacky.

There's absolutely no reason with BL3's art style that frame drops should be as common as they are. That's not to even get into the issue that is console performance, absolutely mind-boggling out the game in it's current state got the green light"

Which someone responds perfectly:

"This shouldn't even be an unpopular opinion. As a consumer, expecting a quality product that performs as advertised is not only reasonable, but the norm. While I find the gunplay of Borderlands 3 to arguably be much more enjoyable than 1 or 2, the plethora of performance issues plaguing the game are detracting from my experience. Even though everyone may not be encountering such problems, they're common enough to be the major controversy that they've become. Anyone in this subreddit that doesn't find this rough launch unacceptable is simply allowing their cult-like fandom for the franchise to corrupt their judgement."

There are many more, but I already made this message longer than I planned already. Just wanted people to know that Borderlands 3 has a lot of technical issues on PC and consoles - base and Pro/X.

Haha that bug, where you join someone's game with already completed quests is too much.

Capcom's titles this year were quite polished and they did not needed a single update to work great at launch. This is quite rare for AAA games as you mentioned.
