Someday You'll Return is a strange mix of many types of games. It's hard not to see the Walking Simulator in it, especially in the beginning when it's pretty straight forward despite the illusion of an open environment, but the game also features adventure elements with puzzle solving you don't often find in Walking Sims. There are also scripted sequences that lean more on the action side, when the main character has to flee for example, but there is also a stealth element added to the numerous gameplay mechanics at some point. We're not going to lie, sneaking around while deadly creatures are lurking is not a lot of fun, it's actually more frustrating than scary, but there are parts of the game that work well. Being able to prepare potions gives it a sort of Kingdom Come: Deliverance vibe, rock climbing is a gimmick but it feels a bit fresh in such a title. The visuals look pretty nice too, which is nice in game where exploration is so important, but in the end it's a shame that the story isn't really that captivating. Voice acting is not the best so it may be why we didn't truly feel as committed as we should have. Last but not least, the game suffers from a few technical issues (the controller buttons don't show even when playing with a gamepad, framerate takes a hit from time to time, the game doesn't seem to save the resolution when you quit and launch it again, etc.). A mixed bag is what it is really, but some will certainly enjoy it anyway.
