GSY Video Xbox One

As promised, here is a first batch of direct feed videos of Halo 5: Guardians captured in heroic mode. We haven't been able to replay the two sequences featuring the Hunters yet so it's hard to be sure that the challenge isn't going to rise up, but so far, the game isn't too challenging in this difficulty setting. It is however true that it is only the beginning of the adventure so we won't jump to conclusions. More footage of Mission 2 and 3 will come today or tomorrow, and we'll also have some gameplay videos of Mission 8 as soon as possible in the days to come. Until then, enjoy the following videos, but keep in mind that there are obviously minor SPOILERS.

I find the inside-of-the-helmet-thingy in first-person really distracting. I think its too apparent, takes up too much of the screen and reacts too little to the things going on

Other than that it looks great. Impressive how it maintain 60ish fps with this fidelity

I know people who start playing MP and let the SP pass by but for me it's the other way around . Only when i'm done with story,i start with multiplayer ... and a destiny vibe is a great compliment to 343 industry i guess :)

I love your website and the quality of the videos you upload. Its the best on the internet. Thank you for doing it.

I just wanted to make a humble request. Is it possible to not include the hard-coded subtitles for cut-scenes? It kind of removes the immersion sometimes. But its not big deal if you cannot do it.

You guys/gals do awesome work! Thank you once again!

Yeah, I do not think it would be too difficult for them to remove it with a option to have or nor have it. I haven't watched all the videos but for a 60fps game it looks much better than I thought. Previously released MP videos looked average at best but the final version looks like they did great job. In SP at least.

Two reasons for their presence:

- some players are hard of hearing and we think they should be able to enjoy our videos too.
- our French audience would be even more unhappy if we took them off because they would understand even less. If we had to record both English and French footage, that would take us forever and it would cost us too much money.

Thanks for your support, your kind words are much appreciated. :)

The truth is this looks better than Destiny...and it should. Plus destiny has no real story. I'm not a big Halo fan but this game looks incredible. Clearly looking like a AAA must have. 343 has got my attention.

According to a recent DF analysis, H5 is one of the few games on console that manages to consistently hit the 60fps mark (rather than being perceptual 60fps like it is in other games i.e COD or just straight up 30fps). One way 343i managed this is by employing a dynamic resolution format so the resolution drops the more the engine is under load. This is a good solution for the (relatively underpowered) Xbone I reckon and more developers should employ this technique. Not enough 60fps games on the Xbone/PS4 as they are too underpowered to have both incredible visuals and a solid 60 so developers opt for eye candy over gameplay.

No matter how you look at it, Halo 5 is not an amazing looking game in comparison to real amazing looking games. Ok, they have consistent 60fps, but if they have to drop resolution in certain areas, then it's not a technical feature to be proud of. Any game could run at 60fps if the graphics are lowered to achieve that 60fps goal. For fast FPS games, framerate is indeed very important. But to give this game credit for it...
Which would you rather have? consistent resolution but with stuttering when under heavy load? or dynamic res to maintain framerate? I like having a nice detailed picture but I'd rather it lower the res and remain smooth when things get heavy instead of getting a full res but jerky framerate. Only other option I could think is a 30/60 dynamic change. switching to 30 would be smooth vsynced 30, better than 40 or 50 trying to fit in the 60hz refresh and going all jumpy.

That latter option is how halo has been up to this point so i'd have gone for that...assuming the visuals looked better for it. Dropping res isn't a great solution for a game were being able to spot distant enemies is preferred. Having an enemy go from visible to invisible because the pixels are getting stretched isn't ideal. But it'd an admirable and non compomising approach to framerate i guess.

Personally i'd have preferred a game that actually looked current gen but was 1080p @ 30fps and still had a fucking split screen mode...But maybe that's just me :P

People are asking for better graphics at the expense of performance? 343 made the right call on this one. I do think they should have included split screen even at the expense of IQ and performance (in split screen).

Nope. I'm asking for the option since framerate has no baring on my enjoyment of the campaign mode. (Also add split screen because it's absense DOES effect my ejoyment of the campaign mode) MP can be 3fps or 3000fps, i don't play it so i don't care.

Basically make it like the last 6 halo games please :D

I prefer 1080P 30fps with good gfx, details. For online they can do 60fps lowering the gfx, resolution.

And any game could run at 1080p if the frames were lowered...it goes both ways. Halo 5 is technically just as impressive as say UC4. That game runs at 1080p, but only 30FPS...H5 runs at 1080p sometimes, at 60 FPS...whats the difference...

Soooo...does that mean you're going to also critique others games that don't give you the option to adjust the SP frames that are locked at 30? Just curious...
