Sony closed their Paris Games Week press conference with this rather impressive and very brutal cutscene of The Last of Us Part II. The real question now is who are those characters of course!
Update: Added another video where the game's director Neil Druckmann explains a bit more about the game and this trailer.

Dang. Kinda disappointing that Sony is only providing these trailers in relatively low bit rate 1080p. They're in 4K on their YouTube channel...

That doesn't really mean anything when the bitrate is lower on youtube. Just because it says 4k doesn't mean "better". Youtube vids are always lower quality than these.

I dunno about that. I was doing side by side comparison of the Ghost of Tsushima trailer. It's kinda subtle but I'm pretty sure the 4K Youtube trailer looked a tad cleaner than the 1080p download from here. Plus it ain't like the bitrate on these 1080p vids are mind blowing. Considering they're just standard h.264 mp4, 10-18 mbps isn't that high...

People are speculating it is Ellie's Mammy in the video. It does look very much like her without it clearly being her.

I don't think Sony "provided" this trailer, I think Gamersyde captured it using their own methods since it has the Gamersyde logo at the start. Also they did that thing where they captured it at 60fps not to miss any frames even though the trailer clearly is running at 30fps.

Its strange you would go straight to ridiculing Sony like that. Yet this 671mb sized capture is still a larger file size than the 400mbs 4K version on Youtube so the quality of between both is fairly clear. And 18mb is still over 3 times higher than the Youtube 5mb/s standard.

Gamersyde puts their logo ahead of most of the content they post. These trailers, though, are generally always provided by the publishers. And if it WERE an instance of them being at the show and capturing the videos, then it would still be on Sony for not providing 4K feeds.

Yes it is. At least, it sure seems like it. ND made the claim when U4 came out that they were done with pre rendered scenes. They said their rendering tech was finally good enough and the PS4 powerful enough to not need to do that anymore. In the interview posted here Neil Druckmann talks about how they've made significant leaps with their tech since U4.

No they don't, they don't do that with any publisher sent/acquired videos. They just put up the video unaltered. The Gamersyde logo is for all of their own custom made content. If you were a fan of Gamersyde you would know this.

They weren't kidding about their updated engine. This looks insane even for a cutscene, and its an in game cutscene not pre rendered. There is a lot more to speculate this time also

Watched it again.I can't believe this is real-time. This is too big of a step from U4.

tbh it's not that far off from what was in U4, it's just a lot more atmospherically lit. and if they say they've made a year or so's worth of engine improvements i can see it being real time.

What makes it look so different from U4 aside from engine improvements is the different artstyle. U4 is much more stylized with very vibrant color palet, tlou is way more photo realistic which makes sense

in general yeah, but then last of us could be a very vibrant game too, it's just in this instance, it's basically pitch black and the only light source is a fire. there were similar times in U4 where due to lighting conditions things seemed to jump more towards a realistic image than an exaggerated one, such as this scene

i think in terms of baseline asset quality there isn't much separating them. where the last of us looks better is it's animations, they were already stellar in U4, but they've been raised another level here. but again, if they've made big leaps in terms of facial rigs and facial musculature to better mimic the performance capture, then that's to be expected. remember this is a game coming potentially 3 years after U4.
