Ubiosft has unveiled a Splinter Cell Remake has been greenlit and the project's production is led by its studio in Toronto. The title is using the Snowdrop engine, used in The Division series but also the studio's two major upcoming games Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and a not-yet-titled Star Wars. A bit more information from key studio members can be read here and seen in the video after the jump.

This both excites and terrifies me all at the same time and in very intense levels. Ubisoft Toronto are the lead developers of Far Cry 6, which I haven't played, so can't say much about.

They said that they want to keep the spirit of the early games intact and just make visual and QoL changes specific to today's standards. Which is great. They also said they want to keep the game linear, like the original games, and not open-world. All of which is:

THANK FUCK IT'S NOT OPEN WORLD!!!!!!!!!!

Given Ubisoft's BS shenanigans like MTXs, NFTs, and all manner of design-by-committee crap, it still makes me very weary of what they will do in terms of monetization, because they're absolutely not interested in just selling a game, a one-and-done type of deal.

I absolutely love Splinter Cell, so am happy they are remaking it. Just hope that they don't stuff it full of the worst things in today's gaming. Excitement and terror.

Just keep expectations low and you will be fine   there’s no way that we’ll have a game like in 2002

  • Melmoth

Melmoth In many ways it gave me a Last of Us vibe. Well written, strong voice actors and presentation, but the gameplay didn't hit the spot for me. I can still understand why so many people like those games (8 minutes ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth the vista by running it in 21:9 aspect ration (even though i have a 16:9 tv), which gives more picture information on both sides and worked well for the horizontal design of the level design. (12 minutes ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth Having the close over-the-shoulder camera works great for the seamless-camera style presentation they went for, but it's problematic for spacial awareness in larger fights. It did help a bit to widen. (14 minutes ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth The mostly two-dimensional level design and not-as-sharp combat combined with a lot of polished animated auto-platforming and transitions made it good, just not a great gaming experience for me. (16 minutes ago)

  • Melmoth

Melmoth to play it. There's no doubt an enormous amount of work put into all the small details and craftmansship in all assets of the game. Very polished presentation. But coming straight off Sekiro, the game (18 minutes ago)

Melmoth @Sdarts: I had a very similar experience. I got it for PC on release. I already had the game on PS4 for a few years, but still shrinkwrapped. So i thought the high quality PC release was a good way.. (20 minutes ago)

Sdarts Anyway, just my stupid opinion and it's not meant to be an attack or hurt anyone, I just had a 8/10 experience. That is all. Though the game does have serious flaws. (19 Hours ago)
