Those screenshots obviously come from an unfinished build since the fighting animations are still from the original PSX version and haven't been redesigned for HD resolutions yet.

I'm pretty sure it's as finished as it's going to get. Capcom NEVER redesigns their sprites. They've been re-using the same animations for over 10 years. But the gem effects and wide screen are definetly different from the PSX version. Not sure about the PSP version though.

Yeah, HD seems to be a good joke on Live Arcade titles.

But seriously... this is the worst type of crap to be coupled into fighting games. I hate how they messed up Mortal Kombat with minigame dung like this too. Why not play Lumines, or any other 100% identical puzzle game with a bit more effort put into it.

Puzzle Fighter II was released in Japan's arcade in 1996...

Yeah, I read about this and the Street Fighter 2 HD update turbo edition type zero XX and got all excited. Capcom employing Udon to redo the graphics so they look ok in 1080p. Then I read that Udon did Capcom Fighting jam, which featured scaled quad pixel sprites and I became dissapointed again :(

Please redraw the graphics properly, not some filtering effect that appears here. It definately looks like all the splash and jewel graphics have been redone.

Nope, the current sprites are placeholders for the real 1080P graphics. That's why they've hired the artists at Udon Comics to redraw the old PSX versions in HD resolution.

Niiice! I've been waiting for a new version of this game for so long. The only times I ever played it were on a pirated PS1 disc and on a modded XBOX. This game is great, and playing it online is gonna be the shit!

Yeh lol, and I seem to remember it coming to the PC before the PS version too.
SPF is awesome, but I read on Sirlin's blog that they have only been told to redesign everything but the characters. So this means it wont receive the same full treatment as ST sadly, and I was really hoping they'd put Sagat in this version.

Yeah... which was my point exactly. An ancient idea for a puzzle game recycled a million times, and not a very good one at that. I guess the original makes all the difference.

But if you like it, good... I don't :)
