Although this year TGS is now finished, Electronic Arts sent us this Bulletstorm video from it, commented by the developers of the game.

Generic as can be. I wonder if the general audience will ever get tired of the same marine bad ass soldier crap over and over again. I'm probably just getting old. Does this game have multi-player?

Generic?

If by generic you mean it looks more fun than any FPS out there right now then I agree.

This will eat the FPS next year in the fun/gameplay department and I will be there day one!!

I'm sorry, this is generic? Can you name me 4/5 games that have the same direction as Bulletstorm?

not my type of thing but it IS looking better the more they show. if it had split-screen co-op (which seem criminal that it's not there) i'd be a lot more interested, as it is tho, it's like gears, a solid rental.

Bulletstorm is fully aware of it being a "dumb-action-egoshooter" and that is why it will be so much better then all the other generic crap.

Unreal Tournament with a story line and when you shoot anything +50 points points show up in blue comes to mind. A Flac cannon that shoots balls of death? Like I said I'm probably just getting old and tired so don't take my frustration of FPS saturation to serious. At least drop the roid rage marine plot in exchange for ANYTHING else. Maybe there are to many FPS to have an original plot or setting anymore.

The uniqueness in this is that there is no plot. Epic hasn't even tried to sell a story here; the emphasis is on fun. This is far, far from being a generic shooter.

I don't understand why people keep calling this generic? This is one of the few FPS's that actually has a unique look and feel to it. It's like these people don't even watch the video's, but see 'EPIC' and 'Unreal Engine' in the description and instantly yell 'generic!'.

Either way, this game is looking awesome if you as me!

Played FPS since day one, and I agree with IRAIPTOIR, but I will provide reasoning behind it.
FPS in general is generic right now. Hell, most of them use the same kind of engine.
But their approach in making this game is unique

"Killing as an artform" - Bulletstorm

The game speaks for itself.

This is an arcadey FPS action game in the vein of the THE CLUB, so it's refreshing from the saturation of war games (CoD, Battlefield, MoH, Killzone, Halo). Not saying war games are a bad thing, just pointing it out.

that's precisely why i'm not all that interested in the game. the club was one of the worst games i've played. just so incredibly half assed especially coming from the guys behind PGR. bulletstorm does have similaries, but i appreciate that there are actual levels in this, rather then the club (and upcoming "brink") where it's esentially MP maps fighting bots/AI.

People call this genreic because they don't know what they are talking about. A FPS centered around pulling of crazy moves and combos for score seems about as unusual as it get's in that particular genre. I think the art looks pretty nice as well, kind of gears of war-ish, but seeing as how Epic helped out with that part it's no surprise.

It baffles me how a game like this, that takes a rather fresh spin on FPS shooting, gets marked down as "generic". Is the presentation the only thing people fucking look at anymore?

i think it's more the simplistic nature of the game that comes across as generic, it's not generic in the "modern warfare shooter" "milked to high heaven" "when is it going to stop" "WW2" way. more the brainless doom, serious sam, painkiller vein of shooters. but then what FPS isnt generic these days. stylistically it's very generic tho. you could take the locations and characters and throw them into UT3 or gears and i honestly wouldnt notice.

but gameplay wise the generic aspects dont bother me that much just like killzone's genericisms (if it isnt a word it should be...lol) dont bother me, it's pretty much everything else that gets on my tits. the general vibe, premis, artstyle and approach. plus the fact it doesnt have co-op when it bloody well should have.

So how is it in any way simplistic? If anything it seems much more involved that the standard point gun at head, squeeze trigger formula we usually see. But yes, the game seems to have a much more frantic pacing, reminiscent of older shooters, that's for sure. It's about going balls to the wall mad and killing the living hell out of anything that moves and rack up score, but that doesn't mean that it's simplistic, now does it?

The art style is distinct though, you think about Epic the very second you look at it and like i said; Epic sent a bunch of guys over to People Can Fly to help them with the art. With that in mind it's not so strange that it looks like it does. But i don't think you'd mistake it for something taat was not by Epic, am i right? So really, idon't think calling it generic in the art department is fair either. It looks like a game by the art team from Epic, which it is to some extent.

its interesting when people shout somethings generic and then when they give an example they say it's like a certain game...but with such and such added to it.

Not watched the vid yet, but i hope online co-op, or atleast online leaderboards, are spoken of...as you would think a game heavily based on scoring points throughout would thrive on such things

Graphically, the game looks great as always

Doesn't it kinda make sense that a guy who handles a gun in firefight should be a tough soldier guy? Wouldn't have much chance for survival otherwise. You need to have right boys for the job.

LOL. Come on, sure he has a grenade launcher, but it bounces around, and the KICKS it into the enemies then Electro-lasso's another guy and pulls him into an environmental hazard. How about crushing guys by kicking open doors? Yeah, that's pretty generic...

Love this game. Very funny, brutal and nice graphics. What else to wish? I love that old-fashioned-duke-nukem-like comments of the main character. Big brother was awesome! :-D This game is not gonna win by some revolultionary mechanics etc....but its the game in its purest form. It just entertains You.

I have seen only this video of Bulletstorm, but I didn't see nothing new. The whole fps history is full of bouncing weapons, pulling the enemy towards you has been done in many others too (mass effect is one, you don't see the lasso but smash him down, pull him over object or shot him etcetc...), make elevators or other object fall on enemies it's old story, not saying this game sux, only saying i haven't seen anything new. The graphic is really nice thou. But what makes a FPS really good for me it's the AI, and can't tell anything about it without playing.
