Sony recently launched a video series for Days Gone to highlight the dangerous world of Farewell created by Bend Studio. The first two videos are now here in good quality and shows how perilous the exploration can be and why the Drifter Bike is Deacon's best ally. The game will launch on April 26.

Can't wait for this. Its looking very nice and fairly good for an open world Unreal Engine 4 game. It will be interesting to see what the final game performance is like, frame rate wise.

I hope the studio is put to work on a Syphon Filter reboot next. Imagine the whole first game set in a semi open world. Well the second game would work anyway since the first act of that game was in the Colorado mountains.

Good to see the LoD in this game is very good, even coming off RDR2 which sets a new standard.

Barring any big surprises, looks like Sony will have another solid title on its hands.

Visually it looks great, but some of the gameplay looks a bit.. wonky. Hopefully it comes together.

Ghost Recon Wildlands has set this standard, not RDR2

Draw distance was really good in Wildlands but LoD was not the best. You could see a lot of low res mountains and valleys

Depends on the plattform PC ultra had a significantly better LoD than console in this game, especially ground polygons and vegetation

RDR2 did set a high bar for open world games on consoles. Days Gone in particular is a good example from UE4. it would have set a high bar a couple years back, for UE4's technical prowess. From what I've experienced from UE4's tools, you can go higher in detail and performance. if there was a pc version of this, i'd say they are at medium settings.

while there is no denying UE4's ability to reach any technical bar, when you have the hardware and determination. Days Gone holds up pretty decently and it does set a bar for console development.

the LOD in RDR2 would be shit if you were ridding a bike instead of a horse. Since its a slower paced game, they can play tricks with the mesh quality.

I wish games that showed you low LOD stuff put more care into low LOD assets. Looking through a high magnification sniper rifle in some games looks ridiculous. They should know that's a possibility and prepare for it.

yea this is very true for games like Battlefield etc. All the vegetation sort of vanishes once zooming in with the rifle. It really irked me in BF1

It's not that bad in Battlefield imo, at least compared to some games. Looking through a scope in Fallout 4 for example will reveal hilariously deformed buildings. I hate that.

yea well Fallout 4 runs on a crap engine so that is to be expected. But I totally get what you are saying.

that's not how LODs work. no mater the speed of travel, LODs activate from a player perspective. it's like running with a long object pointed forward. you cannot catchup to the other end of the object if you are the one carrying it...heheh.

to further elaborate. the LODs will display at the same pace, no mater the speed. if the distance is close you will notice it as much when slower. maybe even more on a slower transition.
