Player faces look improved but still not on the level of PES. Lol @ 3rd pic, real life Messi would skip passed all 3 of those players then score :D Its a shame the agility problems in Fifa 09 didnt allow for his true ability to shine, I hope its sorted in the next game.

I agree with you, Jin187.

He's amazing and he deserves to be amazing in FIFA10.

You can't really argue against that - Konami's very good at player accuracy. The faces in FIFA 10 still look good in their own right though.

The visuals in general are pretty stunning.

Seabass said what? LOL!

Looks like FIFA will come out on top again this year.

Disagree (strongely) about the debate about the player faces. PES faces in-game often look too cartoonish in the replay and screenshots that I've seen. They still have that odd looking overbite and horse-teeth expression on their face. All they've done is jacked the poly count up and plastered a photo over the model...again. They still look great, though. But the thing Fifa's faces have that I actually prefere is that when static, they are modeled almost perfectly from every angle, giving a true representation of the player no matter what angle they are viewed at. Look at Essien in the second pic. That's almost photo-realistic. I don't even know why there is still a debate over player faces in this game. Sure some are generic and look terrible, but the big players pretty much look as good as can be.

Have you read any feedback on the game? Players like Messi and co can now be controlled to take players on. They now feel like they have that individualism and ability to go round defenders. Something that was a chore in 09. It seems like they are slowly but surely ironing out all the niggles that 09 had so expect this game to be the one to deliver that buzz not seen since the days of PES 4 or 5. Odd, considering you'd have thought PES would be the one doing that. Not going to be. I'm really not interested in it anymore. I already know how good Fifa 10 is going to be.

Not quite sure which screenshots you've been looking at Dingleberry, but PES 2010's player faces look far better than FIFA 10's:

It doesn't matter what process is used to model the player faces, PES still comes out on top in terms of accuracy.

Aye, but blm, those screens you picked there aren't representative of how they look in game. I've seen the trailer and in-game screens and they do look different. I'm talking about the expressions on their faces and such. Take a look. I can't find any better references or can't be arsed, but they deffinitely have that weird overbite that throws off the whole look.

There's just something that's more natural looking in some of the Fifa faces. Not all, but particularly the dark skinned players. Rooney? Well, that's a bad comparison because he's a bit of a mong anyway. You can have a photo of a spud for his face and it would work.

Even so, I still maintain that PES trumps FIFA in terms of accuracy and that natural look. Don't get me wrong, the player faces in PES 6-2009 were incredibly cartoonish, but PES 2009 has definitely nailed the natural look of the players - that's largely down to the new colour filter implemented in the game's engine.

So, PES has the better player faces for me.

I agree, the faces in PES 2010 look far better than those in Fifa 10.

Also, Fifa 09 seemed to only concentrate getting the popular players right which is like 2% but in PES, I'd say about 60% of the players have accurate representations.

Again I'll have to disagree here. Of course PES will get most of the faces bang on for the most part of the game simply because Fifa has about 50 times the amount of players in the game. Like I said, the main players will all be concentrated on, which is more or less what you want, but to say PES faces are far better is an exaggeration IMO. From the people who have played a recent build of Fifa 10, they say that once they seen Messi up close, he looked just as realistic and as natural to look at (considering that Fifa's skin textures and shaders are still much better) as the PES counterpart, if not even more so. It's equally impressive according to the guy on the podcast over on the FSB, and this is a fella who was an avid PES freak like myself. I really can't fault EA for the faces they have concentrated on. They look amazing. The PES Vs Fifa debate in all aspects is for me one that died last year and I've no doubt that this year will be the last nail in the coffin for that.

I've also spoken to people who playtested the latest build in London and they've said that, while player faces have improved, they still have that 'zombie look' and aren't as good as the ones in PES. So, it depends who you believe really.

FSB is a good site though. The people who do the majority of the playtesting try to remain as impartial as possible, and it's also obviously the best source for FIFA news. Now WENB, that's a place I try not to pay too much attention in terms of reviews/impressions - the bias there is unbelievable.

Why are people still clamoring about the faces anyway? The character models aren't even accurate. Since when is Messi that big and his head that small?

Seriously.. his body is bigger than Terry's!

Do you realize that Terry is a couple of feet in the background there away from Messi? If it were Fifa 08, you'd have a case, but I found the models in 09 to be pretty much spot on in terms of proportion of limbs etc etc. Also, football kits aren't skin tight.
