Announced last year during the GamesCom, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, the new adventure game from The Chinese Room (Dear Esther) will be available to download on PSN on the 11th of August.
see this like ethan carter is one of those games where YES they look ok from afar but walk to trees and anything else ingame and they look crap texture wise
this is the problem I have with how games look even playing in 4k on my pc and all settings on ultra...most games only look ok long as you don't go close to stuff.
I don't understand how a game like killzone shadowfall on ps4 has very very good rock textures where you can get as close as the camera will let you and it looks bloody fantastic and all the games ive on my pc textures don't look as good as that :/
though in killzone that was actually the only good texture the rest sucked and the trees had that shiny jelly look that bioshock games have.
The thing that drives me nuts is all the 2d plants and flowers in games they look bad and I thought we had come further than what we have for games
I must be expecting too much, I expected ethan carter to blow me away, ive got it on ultra everything and nope the only 1 good texture in the game is all the metal items where the paint is cracked, everything else is not so good

I think the problem is compression, if they didn't compress the textures and geometry etc many games would require 100s or even 1000s of Gigabytes, plus rendering super high quality textures etc requires a lot of horsepower , but in the future with faster internet and bigger harddrives and more powerful machines these problems will evaporate only to be replaced with the immense hurdles of global illumination and real world physic simulation, proper AI etc.
