With the end of August already signaling a flurry of activity for our talented team of writers, expect some articles and a few videos in the coming days. Given the lineup announced for September, we promise to do our best to cover as many releases as possible—within our means and depending on what the various publishers send us, of course. We're kicking off our reviews for the start of the 2026 school year with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, the new game from Asobo Studio published by Focus Entertainment. Enjoy the read and the videos!
Verdict
As a spin-off of the main series, Resonance stands out as an excellent choice for fans of combat, puzzles, and storytelling. While this new formula may not appeal to everyone—since it’s less unique in its approach than the previous two installments—we personally had a great time with it and thoroughly enjoyed the nearly fifteen hours it took us to complete the adventure. The power of the Hugo-Amicia duo certainly isn’t matched here, but this episode showcases the team’s expertise, as they’ve managed to draw us into this new descent into hell with ease. The various narrative threads might be a bit too predictable for the most discerning players, and it’s true that some “surprises” aren’t really surprises after all, but that didn’t detract from the overall experience for us. With its effective combat system, well-designed puzzles, and engaging stealth and chase sequences, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a promising spin-off title well worth considering for purchase this fall of 2026, a season that promises to be particularly rich in great games.
- On the upside
- Great atmosphere
- Efficient combat system...
- Enjoyable puzzles
- A creepy creature lurking around
- Visually stunning, even without RT
- A bunch of moving moments
- Solid writing
- Spectacular OST
- Available on Game Pass
- On the downside
- The RPG aspect feels vain
- ... but it doesn't have the depth of a Triple-A game
- The story and plot twists are perhaps a bit more predictable
