Thymesia was sent to us way before its release, which gave us time to complete it and prepare a Gamersyde Offline video in which we examine what we thought about the game. Since we recorded the video before finishing the game, there are a few corrections we need to make regarding what we are saying, but clearly it does not really change our opinion.
First and foremost, we can confirm that there are indeed four "levels" only. By levels, we need different locations to travel, or different biomes if you like. Level design is rather linear and each area is actually quite small, especially compared to what we're used to with Soulsborne games. That's why most locations also include separate side missions that usually take place in the exact same place. In the first "level", there is one main mission and four optional ones. Among those, only one takes place in a new area. The last mission has you fight a mutated version of the first boss. In the second level, aside from the main mission, only three side quests are available but at least there is one fully new area to explore. The third "level" includes only three missions total while the last one is actually not a real level as it is simply a boss arena. Also note that there is a total of only six bosses in the whole game. Combat system is actually good though it takes a bit of patience to upgrade the main character to realize it. Plagued weapons are a lot more important than we thought in that they can make the game much easier. Indeed, some of them come with pretty neat effects. As for the rest, check out our video as we cover pretty much everything there is to say about the game, its strengths and weaknesses.
