Here's mine,

-360 Core HD Component and VGA(D-sub)
-Samsung LE26M51B LCD HDTV

-Massive drops in COD2
-Slight occasional drops in Condemned
-Slight drops in PGR3(when in an garage filled with cars, circle arround a car while facing it all the time) NON INGAME though!
-None in Kameo
-None in PDZ
actually there are a couple places in pgr3 where it drops frames, crossing the brooklyn bridge, use the furthest bakc camera angle from the car, especially if theres another car onscreen, it'll drop a few frames, but w/ all the effects it's still smooth

Yeah, I've noticed the framedrops aswell in PGR3, I dunno about CoD2 because I don't have that game on my 360 (I have it on PC)..

I think it's because these are launchgames which are not really optimized as the developers are still learning the Xbox 360 hardware, or it's just that the Xbox 360 isn't as powerfull as some might think/believe.. Probably a combination of both, but hopefully more of the first then the last for all of us Xbox 360 owners..

*rolls eyes* nah, you mean the first games ever made for a system might not be 100% perfectly optimized?

Yeah, but why are some people experiencing problems with COD2, while most people are not.....

That's because of personal perception.. People have different perceptions and opinions about what is smooth or not.. But I suspect CoD2 drops under 30fps then, otherwise you wouldn't really notice framedrops on a console which has no way to tell how much fps the game is running at (which is logical because fps shouldn't be an issue on consoles)..

At Bjongers:

I just received a new x360 today, and I still have the framedrops.
I also tried another copy of COD2, and still the same framedrops.

You mentioned you ran in 480p at 60hz...
So I assume you can choose between 50 hz and 60 hz..(I cannot anyway, I've got the Joytech component cable)
Try it in 720p at 50hz...

Please let me know how it does...

cheers

Can anyone tell me if you can choose between 50hz or 60hz with the Microsoft Component cable?

my TV selects what frequency it outputs depending on the connection method, HD is always 60hz but if i input with RGB or SCART i can select either 50hz or 60hz.

i just registered my TV online and i got a phonecall of samsung, and they are sending me a CD and Cable to update the firmware, so i will tell you if it's any better.

Yeah, I must also register mine...but surely, that can't be the problem here...
I've tried it on:
a CRT monitor, a TFT monitor and 2 HDTV's, and they all give the same problems...

I don't think framedrops have anything to do with your TV or monitor.. It's just the game's fps that drops at certain points because the 360 hardware can't handle it, and/or because of poor/not optimized programming.. Probably the last since these are launchgames..

Ok a few thoughts on the subject.. For one I also notice the framedrops, however they aren't horrendous.

Now I have the Official LCD HDTV (Samsung LN-R268W) so obviously I play in Progressive and at 720p.

I think it relates to that issue of whether or not the human eye can see beyond 60fps.. There are plenty of people who say they can't see any difference at higher refresh rates/higher fps, while people like myself (and probally you) do notice it, and do find a massive difference..

I just think it's our eyes. It's not like we have supereyes lmao, we just notice changes in framerate and smoothness more and more.. Considering many games wil have some slowdown, this actually means our eyes suck :P lol.

I'm pretty sure that's not the issue, cause when I throw 4 smokeys and I stand in it and rotate untill the smoke is gone, I can see the compass in the left bottom corner stuttering like hell, it's just impossible not to notice.

Just for the hell of it I uploaded a vid that I recorded while playing COD2.
Any slowdown you see are framedrops of the game and not of the vid.
As I walk in the smoke you can see a sort of slowmotion effect, this is also related to the framedrops, the vid itself is fine.....
Also, when I'm spinning around I'm spinning continiously, so any break in the movement is the cause of the framedrops.....
Let me know what ya think......
The file is called JatoCOD2 and it's size is 23.8 mb.

LOL i wouldn't disregard it but its obviously something to do with the game, maybe some people don't notice it so much.

Either way you have to put it down to the game not getting enough optimization for 720p.

I don't think a few frames here and there is going to spoil the game for anyone except the most picky of gamers (normally the PC gaming crowd)

One thing i will say is that sending 3-4 360's back to Microsoft is just wasting their time !! (especially when there doesn't seem to be any real issue with the hardware)

I guess some people expected (rightfully or not, it doesn't matter) the Xbox 360 to be some super gamingmachine, much better then any PC outthere, not even breaking a sweat when running massive 3D games like CoD2 in full DX9 with HDR lighting on and AA, and everything.. Newsflash, it isn't! CoD2 on the PC also runs pretty slow in full DX9 on even the most high-end systems, so I'm not suprised at all the Xbox 360 version has some slowdown aswell here&there.. But since it's a console FPS the few framdrops shouldn't hurt the player as bad as it does on the PC, constant good fps is more important there because of the gameplay mechanics (that's why PC gamers are more picky)..

True, because it won't fix anything.. It's just the way the game is programmed, and how the Xbox 360 handles it.. That's not gonna change when you get a new 360 that will do exactly the same.. It's as useless as people sending back their 360's because they think PGR3 still has to much aliasing (jaggies) in 720p.. Those people are expecting something which is just not gonna happen..

I was rereading this interview after OptimusV2 pointed something out to me.

Anyways the interview says:-
ATI: But yeah on the shaders we have 48 of what we call the adaptive shader array. So in the past you’ve had to say well here’s where I’m going to use my pixel shaders, and here’s how I’m going to use my vertex shaders, but in this particular case the hardware actually figures it all out for you and determines what the most efficient way to do that is.

So if you have a bunch of commands that are going to the VPU, and let’s say it requires a very light load of vertex shading, but a very heavy load of pixel shading, the developers don’t have to specify that. That is intelligently figured out by the VPU. So the VPU looks at the workload is and says, “okay here’s how I’m going to evenly distribute the workload”, so we call it the adaptive shader array.
Its probably a long shot but could these frame rate problems be some form of inconsistency with how the unified shaders determine how to spread the workload.

It would explain why people are getting different results.

It's quite normal smoke has a major impact on performance btw, in almost any game that uses real looking smoke.. Smoke just requires a *huge* ammount of pixelcalculations etc..

I play CoD2 on my PC in DX7 in MP (I do run DX9 in SP however), and I have an almost constant 90fps when playing MP games.. But when I run into smoke the fps can drop to under 30 sometimes.. On the Xbox 360 it's probably the same and that's why you see it in Jato's video aswell.. I think it's normal, smoke kills framerate..

What are you on about? The only game I was pist off about was GRAW, cause I felt a bit robbed after seeing the E3 trailer and then the X05 gameplay footage.
Perhaps I was a bit blunt on some points, but I felt that anything I stated was justified.
Now after seeing the new footage I have become a lot more possitive about this game and am actually looking forward to it allot!
I admit, I can be a bit snappy when I'm dissapointed in a certain game/console or anything for that matter, so I'll try my best not do so in my next posts.....
And telling people to disregard my posts because I'm not 100% pro 360 is pretty pathetic IMO.

As for why I send my 360 back -TWICE-.......
I Got the impression it was indeed a hardware related problem because I was the only one experiencing these problems, and after ruling out a heating problem, a dvd issue and tv/cable's issue's I think it was rather justified....
I mean, just look at the vid and see for yourself.....
