Inscrit depuis 6285 JoursBut I played the demo at last yesterday and here are my impressions from it:
First thing first and the most important to me COMBAT:
It is I must say that Im surprised by it because I didn't expected to be this good and its only the demo, strikes carries weight to them we can atribute that to a very good hit detection, enemies react nice aswell to them making it feel very impactfull and not just as a filler, you can already in teh demo tell this guys at MS put a lot of work into it and I dare to say its one of the most satisfiyng combat systems I have played, Im very pleased by it and I dont understand thne complaints about it,I tried to button mash and I got owned and it was the demo, you have to evade, block, counter, block cancel combos to survive, enemies are vicious in here.
As we know this was a combat tutorial from start to finish so you can feel it and know what type of system you will have in the game and the demo does a very good job at it, it even lets you buy a move :)
Animations are very good specially those of the combat cross and Gabriel,I didnt see any particular move that made clipping or nay issue whatsoever,it was all very smoth.
OST oh my GOD!!
Probably one of the best I have heard ina long time, this soundtrack belonds in epic trilogys of movies like LOTR or something like that it is just too epic to be in a game,I have alreayd have some favorites tracks that have become instant classics, like Belmont Theme(V2 of ourse) and some others but Sath could agree here and anyone that have some taste in OST that this is one of the best ever.
I realy loved those drawings in the book, they are very well done, and I must say art design of the game its off the hook, this dudes were very inspired when they invisioned this game, you can feel the love in every design, its all very well detailed and beautifull, this game must wins some freaking awards on that department damn it!!
I will not comment in graphics since I was a little tired since I played at 2:30 in the morning till 4 am or so,I was just hooked with teh freaking combat and amazing OST of this thing but I had to sleep cause I had to work this morning lol but al in all I cant freaking wait now.
Oh and screw the reviews this game is an instant classic as far as Im concerned!!
FROM THE DARKNESS I DRAW MY STRENGTH!!
Inscrit depuis 7443 JoursI agree with you that the combat was very surprisingly good, great hit detection, nice feedback from the enemies.
Thing is, Gabriel has a chain whip, there is no blade or anything of some sort on the end of the chain, so how they made the hit detection and weight in this game is shocking for me.
I can say that this games combat is closer to Ninja Gaiden 1 if anything.
Considering you must block>evade and do combos and even cancel your attacks quickly to make new ones or keep evading or countering...etc. is exactly like how NG is being played by pros.
The soundtrack, well I dont have to say it again other than, from a orchestral score fan, this is definitely one of the best along side LOTR music, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, LAIR and others with grand symphony sound to it which is great.
Imagine listening to the music LIVE :O
Anyways, seems like me and you have to wait until tomorrow, I for one will be at GAME right when they open, buy it and hurry back home and play it.
I can feel that this might replace Ninja Gaiden as a favorite game for me considering I have been searching for a new favorite action game for a few years and getting sick of NG universe and wanted something western and not oriental samurai/ninja stuff.
And with the stuff this game has from music, to art and great combat, I can sense a winner!

I love the impressions about how people are playing it for hours and hours and they are still on the first few chapters, not even going further than chapter 2.
Oh the hours are going to be great!

Inscrit depuis 7443 JoursAfter hours of playing this game I have been loving it so much!
Art is fantastic, alot of variety which is great, one level being more or less prettier than the other one.
Music is amazing, enough said.
Combat, this one is going to be decent long impression.
Let me just say the combat is much closer to Ninja Gaiden were defense is extremely crucial, especially the dodging!
Hit detection is fantastic, animations are great.
The reason why the animaton SEEMS to be flat after each attack is for you to have more time to think your next attack or defense, have more open window basically.
You gain more moves to buy as you go further into the game, both advanced and Light and Dark magic.
You can unlock a move were the whip works like Devil Bringer from DMC4 which Nero has.
Basically you can pull in enemies that is small enough or you can zip your way to bigger enemies and attack them with a kick.
The combat has some sort of a freeform which is nice, doesnt make the combos end quickly.
One thing that did annoy me though, which the majority has the same issue, is the platforming.
Its "okay" but some parts really confuses you or its a bit broken design so you fall for your death.
Though, I didnt go "rage" like Gametrailers, they are exagerating. I started paying more attention to the environment and Gabriels animations when he is holding an edge of a wall ro something.
Looking at Gabriel's animation lets you know if it is possible to jump across something or not, maybe you guys will notice it, hard to explain.
Each level you complete within a chapter you unlock a Trial, these trials arent like your typical Mission Mode/Arena Mode like NG or GoW, these are objective based.
One thing that is good is that, no matter how much you gained in moves, items...etc. all your stuff carries in any previous chapter or level you want to go at it in, so its like New Game+ on your demands on what part of the game you want to play in.
One very cool thing I enjoyed in the demo was when the game told me to score some points and you saw RPG-like points on top of the enemy you killed adding up to the overal XP points.
In Extra Menu, you can turn alot of things on/off.
Enemy health bar, XP kills, Gabriel's Health XP, Damage XPs, Focus XP...etc.
It is just cosmetic changes you see on screen, I personally love the XP kills and Health Xps because it makes the game look more like an RPG :)
I am playing on Normal now, and I got to say, the game is freaking hard!
The stronger sub bosses are nasty to go at, and having minions to keeps attacking you constantly is challenging.
Again, the game isnt as crazy hard as Ninja Gaiden, but it definitely puts up a good AI fight, they arent zombies.
I havent gone pass the Lycans and werevolves yet, I be damned once I start fighting the awesome looking vampires, demons...etc.
Even though I died alot, I was loving it so much because the enemies are not cheap, they dont use cheap weapons or powers or anything like that...so far.
Personally, I have no negatives that is game breaking so far, only thing that kind of annoyed me was the camera and SOME platforming issues, but then again, Genji 2, God of War had the same thing.
I have already said how much I hate fixed cameras so I knew what to expect for this one.
But so far, I am loving it, its no more or less than what I expected tbh so thats good :)
PS. I can say this game does feel like a Castlevania game, but then it dont...but in a good way.
This is a re-boot, and games that get a re-boot it should stay fresh all the time with very minimal refrences from the classic titles.
Its like Ninja Gaiden NES to Xbox version.
Only thin that was back from NES was the title and Ryu Hayabusa and some classic stuff like Windmill Shuriken, sword, the fire ninpo that circles around Ryu.
But everything else was new, that is a re-boot.
So stop complaining :)

For example if you want to go up you just hold up, no button needed.
Or if you want to jump from a gap from one wall to another, you justw ait until Gabriel does his "jump ready" animation and you just press X, that way you know you can't fall and it is safe.
Other than that, you hold the direction you want to jump from, like one edge to another edge from the side, you hold the direction and press jump.
But damn, this game is seriously kickass hard on some enemies!
Spiders, big lycans coming in groups or those small little Hellboy bastards, it was like playing NG Hard while this was on Normal!
Damn i love this game, all those nuts who thinks button mashing will get you anywhere, bullshit.

Inscrit depuis 7443 JoursPlayed much more, it seems like it anyways! (I am on chapter 5 ou of 12!)
But everything else is just crazy good, especially the combat.
The bosses are just too hard, sure not crazy Ninja Gaiden hard, but definitely close to them.
I have played god knows how many hours, and I am only on Chapter 5, and I havent done all routes, or all trials or finding all items...etc. but good to know replayvalue is there which is great.
I got plenty of stuff in my arsenal as relics, Dark magic, light/shadow magic, advanced moves...not only normal advanced moves, but relic moves that only works with the relic activated.
One awesome move is if you have a dark magic stone, you can activate it and Gabriel will hold his hand up and crush the stone and everything goes black and you see a big monster with a naked demon chick attached with big chains on the monsters hands.
He will break loose and go around Gabriel like a tornado and do some massive damage, really awesome.
Though I hate the beat design, the naked demon chick is just lame as well.
Once you reach to Chapter 5 then it gets very Castlevania-Van Helsing type, thats when you get much closer to the big castle, vampires...etc. with snow and all so far, Chapter 5 is my favorite place.
I havent seen any vampires yet though, I am hyped to fight them :)
One problem that happens now and then is that when youa re running and the camera switches, sometimes, rare, but sometimes the direction you are holding is wrong to what direction Gabriel is running, that can be problematic at times...and this is why fixed cameras are a pain.
I also got those boots that makes you faster, definitely have some advantages during dodges.
Holding Block and jump and the direction you want to go he will do a forward airflip which is pretty cool.
If you have dark magic on and you hold block for 1 second and then press a direction you can charge, very useful for hidden walls...etc.
I also got a powerup gauntlet, which is pretty much like Dante's weapon were he charges his punches and kicks, but here Gabriel only uses his for punching big objects around or hit enemies.
One important character in this game, not a key character so no spoiler...is a little chubachras (however you spell).
As funny as this little character is, this little bastard will steal your powers away and you have to play hide and seek with it to find him and get your powers back.
He will start taunting to you saying like for example "it is very cold" which means you are going further away, or "oh, its hot!" which is you are getting closer to him.
He is a funny bastard, I like him LOL
But yeah, so far, pretty much everything is near perfect for me, I am having an amazing time playing it!
PS. I love how epic the music is when you increase your healthbar, magic bars, or even completing a level.
Music is so great!
Inscrit depuis 6285 JoursI will say that I dont have that much impressions yet because I only played like 3-4 levels after the demo levels just reached teh first boss but OMFG its huuuuuuuge and very LoTC indeed, I was happy to see this kind of boss!!
Everything in this game so far is beautifull and have one the best graphics I ever seen and the combat I will just say that I feel right at home with it, I agree with sath here its very Ninja Gaiden and I love it for it!!
I can see myself pukking some sick stuff later on when I have all the moves and stuff!!
So far Im loving it eveything and I agree too with Sath here about the camera I hate fixed cameras but it reminds of the first DMC more that GoW so Im not to worried now,it literally feels like if Im playing that game all those years ago again, sense of isolation and exploration is very thick in here too!!
I will repit I love love the combat in here!!

Inscrit depuis 7443 JoursBut seriously now, I am glad you are experiencing what I am experiencing.
Wait until Chapter 5 man, the combat, level design, music...it will blow you away.
When you first see the massively epic scenery of the castle from a mountainside with snow falling, even on your screen.
And when you enter the empty village, veyr Van Helsing-Solomon Kane type!
Just you wait :)
