Fable 3 (First Screenshots INside!)

Microsoft made it sound like a 2010 title last night during their CES press conference. Could they really put together a sequel to that game in such a short amount of time?

Seems like a crazy amount of work to me.

Is that even enough time for the necessary work that would be required for such a title? Well, it'll obviously have to be a late 2010 title so I guess that's a decent bit of time for them, and it's basically a similar amount of time as Naughty Dog needed for Uncharted 2. Although, Lionhead and Naughty Dog are two entirely different developers and the kinds of games that they are making are very different from one another.

Don't suppose this means there'll be very much time to make any major enhancements to their engine, but I suppose I wouldn't mind. Just it simply being a noticeably better game than the second would probably enough to please me.

As you say the engine is already there so that saves a huge amount of time, they can have a smaller team working on optimisations while the rest are doing the content and assets.

Personally I'm hoping for an optional tougher difficulty setting for the non-casuals, as fun as 2 was it was never a challenge.

i think i'll be renting it either way after the dissapointment that was fable 2. unless of course they improve a whole heap on what fable 2 was (i heard rumours that it might go in a completely different directon to the previous 2 games). i want more depth to my actions. give me dialogue options and more in depth interactivity, i dont want to just do a stupid dance in the middle of town and make everyone love me for the rest of the game. it's shallow, as is everything about the games. they have such an awesome fairy tale art style it's a shame they waste it on such shallow gameplay.

i'd be surprised if it was a 2010 title but you never know, they have everything in place to make the process quicker then fable 2 (their very first "next gen" game)

i think it was more the case of us being promised too much, but then it's a lionhead game, i guess we should know better then believing peter molyneux by now.

I think it was a case of MS rushing it out the door as usual, one ofthe most buggy games this gen no doubt.

More importantly than Fable though did you see some of those 3DTV's :D

Meh, not excited about this one. Fable 2 was playable, but it got boring as time progressed--and before finishing the game. I couldn't finish the game in fact, the game told me my save was corrupted, and I didn't like it enough to start over.

Fable 2 was really lackluster, but then again all games from Lionhead are if you ask me. They are all playable but they seldom excel in any way. I was stupid enough to get hyped over fable 2 and got it day one, hardly a mistake i'll repeat :P

I also found something was off with the disc reading. Is my xbox the only one that seemed to be having a really rough time reading this game? I seriously heard that laser moving back and fort throughout the whole game making weird noises and being specially loud.

Graphics were totally awful though, I couldn't believe it. And they have some disgusting women in there as well.

I just hope they improve the art style. Not the design as much as making the people/characters look better. I HATE the huge hand/feet thing. I also want my hero to look more heroic- in Fable 2, even if you were at your physical peak, you still looked like an out-of-shape biker. Oh yeah, how about giving me better weapons and magic throughout the whole game. I had my best sword half way through last time...

Yes, this ten fold. I didn't have a sense of progress in the game partly because I never found equipment that was better than I already had. Also, depending on how you develop your character, they can look downright ugly, especially women. It's just not fun to up the skills on your character when you are not fond of how he looks afterwards.

From a artistic point of view it would be neat to have the cities be colourless and dark (steampunk style like in the concept art) and mix it up with a colourful countryside with great vistas.

Fable has great art, but the engine itself wasn't entirely what I originally expected it would be based on some earlier videos. It's the only videogame I've ever played in my life where I encountered a game ending bug. I literally couldn't progress and couldn't go back, even if I wanted to.

I say they go ahead and make the main character as impressive looking and as high poly as they can and make the necessary sacrifices in other places.

I totally agree with Frozpot. I actually like the concept art for Fable 2, but the transition to 3d from said drawings doesn't exactly benefit the game :P

Also they need to freaking give you some goddamn rewards for doing shit. I mean in Fable 2 you can own everything, get a harem of wives and have a horde of children but it doesn't impact the game AT ALL! Also they could totally take a page from stuff like Borderlands and Diablo and add some loot. 4 sets of armor isn't enough, and digging up condoms and chocolate just isn't as fun as finding a unique pair of boots. Having a story that is more than 5 minutes long and not crappy would also benefit the game i think.

I'm going to have to agree with the others about the inclusion of more loot. Much MUCH more loot. In fact, I'd rather them scrap the "jobs," families, dog, and all that fluff... and instead have them work on decent quests, loot, and character progression. Essentially what I want out of Fable 3 is.... less Fable.

In think "dept over diversity" is the thing you are looking for..
Instead of a lot of things to do that are all kinda meh, just a couple of things that really deep, interesting and long lasting...

Most of the stuff I was excited about in fable 2 was just not as cool in the actual game..
I remember the whole "the dog is the best AI we ever created" comments from Lionhead (Especially Peter)
And then you see it in game....

I could have programmed that fucking dog:
