Inscrit depuis 7601 JoursI'm allergic to that style though, pretty openly so. I can't deal with Overlord AT ALL. I can't even tell you if that game is any good, I just hate the sniggering little bastards that you're controlling, and this "humour" that seemingly consists of being obnoxious.
I mean there's no woman in Fable that you don't wanna bludgeon to death with a fucking rock. So how am I supposed to feel emotionally involved when they expect me to care about my family later?
The game has to settle down. I think it still needs to treat its elements more sincerely to truly stick. It's still stuck, like I was alluding to earlier, in this pseudo pc god simulator/rpg mode while visibly trying to play up consoley action adventure elements and actually genuinely be moving. It can't have it all though, it's about time it started picking the battles it can win.

Inscrit depuis 7507 JoursI've played all the iterations since Super NES and they really don't ever disappoint. At the very least they're always solid with a solid story. Fable wishes it was even a small amount of what Zelda is.
As for the style of Fable you guys are speaking of, that's just British comedy. Their comedy is something that works well here when executed right since American style is to just beat you over the head with the obscene.
Whether you want your game to be serious or not is the question though. Which can easily rub you the wrong way because that humor can get old.

They're just using practically every npc to deliver annoying "funny lines". I've a hard time being evil in games, but the population in Fable is consistently massacre-inspiring.

But still, I do suppose that bringing such a thing up could be seen as a bit overthetop. When people think about promises, so many seem to forget about the massive middle class taxcut he gave everyone ;)

No locking mechanisms on the doors made it easy for the stalkers to come in your home no matter what time of day it was and annoy you. A citizen might walk up to you and say something flattering and then only seconds later insult you. They walked around drunk and picked fights with you and made snide remarks about things you did on quests. But I found early on that massacres didn't have a very lasting effect. You'd could wipe out Bowerstone, come back a few game weeks later and the town is right back to normal.
There was only one element about massacres that I respected in Fable2........... the kids. If anyone in the town got it, it was the kids.
Here's a guy with a gun and an axe, he's used it to take off heads before. We'll run everytime we see this guy coming even if the adults here are stupid enough to fall for his wardrobe change and expressions. Hey, did you see that? He just gave his daughter a master flintlock rifle. We know what this guy is all about, why can't the adults here figure it out? People tend to drop dead whenever this guy shows up, the guards are all clueless as they walk around asking everybody what happened........but we know. And who in their right mind would ever go into that guy's house uninvited?
The shocked expressions on the faces of the kids were hilarious to me, a kind of finality that spoke directly to the foolishness that I had to endure from their stupid parents. You're an orphan now kid, and you only have your mom and dad to blame for it.
If Fable3 really gives me absolute rule over the mindless, superficial twits of Albion, they are going to have a violently difficult time ahead of them.
Inscrit depuis 7601 JoursThat's why I kinda would like for them to choose; either you have citizens that are dumb peons full time or you don't bet a huge narrative device on absolutely baseless affinity towards them.

Inscrit depuis 7470 JoursHonestly, I really do feel they've yet to match what they did with the first Fable. The second fable game, in all honesty, was not nearly as good as part 1 was, but that's just me.

Inscrit depuis 6649 JoursHeres what i posted in response to the dev diary:
"Another case of a game looking far better in motion than it does in screens. Im not sure about the direction theyre taking the game though, F2 was an ok game, it was rather limited and the RPG elements were weak. That was really my biggest gripe, the game was shallow in everything it tried, it had a diverse range of things but they were all dead ends that could be reached very quickly.
When i hear them mention things like making the game more accessable i cringe, physically buckle over in pain, if anything they need to make it less accessable, make it MORE of an rpg, add some depth to things. If they market the thing as a straight up adventure game i wouldnt complain, but then they wouldnt see a penny from me either as thats not the game i had became a fan of in the first instance."
Really, seeing that molyneux himself has mentioned stripping out the rpg elements makes me detest this man and his decisions even more. Quite frankly, if the rpg elements are gone i hope it tanks like nothing before it just in spite of the fact they have actively pursued the destruction of the franchise to cater for a "wider" audience instead of making a BETTER game.

Inscrit depuis 7608 JoursIt isn't really a case of making it less of an RPG than it is making it a friendlier kind of RPG. Whether it succeeds or not we can't possibly know until release.
Also I personally love the humour in Fable for the most part. The emotes are pretty basic but the characters are wonderfully grotesque.
Inscrit depuis 7601 JoursI do think it's jarring when they try to play on emotion though. I so would've wanted to care about my family when I returned to Albion after the tower thing.. and at the end of the game aswell. I just felt no connection at all to the seemingly randomised lass, spewing super irritating lines and my annoying little tit for a son.
If those things HAD worked, if I actually had a bit of affection for my family which I wouldn't have had to be hard pushed to feel, just not PUSHED AWAY from feeling, the return to Albion could've been one of the most impactful moments in a game for me.
