Yep, it's pretty much a videogame weekly television series, except you actually get to play each episode, and it's free.

They are story based missions, pretty much a second campaign in addition to the main campaign with Master Chief. The areas are apparently different from the ones you'll play in the SP campaign or even in the MP. Cutscenes, about 5 missions every week. Well, not entirely separate, I guess, because apparently what's going on in Spartan Ops will at some point connect with what's going on in the main story.

It sounds pretty damn badass, to be honest. What excites me most about Spartan Ops is the fact that we'll basically be doing the kinds of random missions that Spartans are basically doing all over the universe; the kinds of things you read about in the books. Either way, Spartan Ops sounds like an amazing idea.

Okay a little bit into chapter 2 of Halo: Glasslands, and I'm absolutely loving what I'm reading so far. I see very little sign thus far that this book isn't a worthy successor to Nylund's previous work, especially with regards to Ghosts of the Onyx which directly precedes this book. The picture of what's taking place is coming together rather nicely thus far. Pretty damn excited to learn more. And so far I'm not getting the same impression that many say they have had about how Halsey is being treated.

It, thus far, seems right in line with what you would pretty much expect people to quietly think about Halsey and her actions, especially some of her more recent actions. Everything that's going on in Halsey's head seems about right. There has been no major compromising of her character so far that I can see. On top of that, it was always a pretty safe assumption from previous books that Halsey wasn't loved by everyone and certainly had to have her enemies, or at the very least people who were always extremely cautious or critical of her in the office of naval intelligence.

Halsey's character thus far is certainly intact. Traviss shows a great deal of respect for Nylund's previous work thus far, I think.

Yeah but you'll be reading the same stuff about Halsey over and over throughout the book (every 5 pages or so), well written books usually are more subtle about themes they touch and try to discuss various issues, not just one through 400 pages. On top of that, comparing Halsey to Mengele is preposterous.

I suppose I won't mind. I'll have to see how Traviss executes. From a bit into the third chapter, I can already tell that this stuff about Halsey will be a sort of reoccurring theme, but it depends how Traviss handles it all. So far she's doing a fantastic job.

Mendez, for example, has every right to be concerned about what she might do after her abduction of Kelly. And out of respect to Kurt, he just has to make sure that Halsey doesn't look down on the new Spartans. And that a Spartan is about more than just a genetic, super specimen.

I mean, I'm assuming based on past books, not so much from this one here, but such a comparison for Halsey to Mangele, however extreme a comparison, doesn't seem all that far off in the least. There were always strong ethical and moral questions about what Halsey was doing, and she supervised all aspects of the Spartan program that would eventually create the likes of Master Chief, Fred, Kurt, Linda, Kelly, etc. These were all children. Human experimentation was performed on every last one of them, and some of them paid the ultimate price. Others are alive, but in a shape that is most cruel, and Halsey seems to take a preference, whether fair or not, in the perfect specimens. Then again, I'm only on chapter 3. As I get further I'll have a chance to see more of how she comes to acknowledge the other Spartans that she had no role in creating or supervising.

In a roundabout way, this was indeed a selection process of who would end up dead and who would be forced into a life that was certainly not initially of their own choosing. We know that Halsey, deep down, is a good person and that her intentions are for the greater good, but she isn't exactly above crossing certain lines if she feels it's the right thing to do. And she has personally always felt some degree of regret about what she's done. It's why she's on a mission to basically save as many of her Spartans as she possibly can.

She shares quite a few similarities with Mengele. I'm sure on some level he also felt that what he was doing was the right thing, too. Even Halsey, in some regards, is technically guilty of crimes that, under ordinary circumstances, would have people wanting to bring her to justice, not at all believing that what she has done was right. Even her abduction of Kelly was a step too far, regardless of what her intentions were and how it all ended up working out. I do agree that Halsey and Mangele are not the same type of people, but I can't deny that a comparison is surprisingly fitting. Not gonna lie, I must be facing the two most vicious friggin elites ever in Halo Reach at the moment. Seriously, the teamwork of these two is just outrageously unfair. This is like my first time really playing any Halo title on legendary and, from what I can see, they pretty much just have more health, which means they are alive much longer to showcase their various tricks in their arsenal within the confines of the given sandbox that they're fighting in, and I've pretty much had a handle on it for most of the way.

However, the two elites that I'm facing in particular right now are just too, too much. I've never seen anything like it. I've backtracked literally 5 or 6 times to go get newer, or stronger weapons with which I can use to take them out, and they are just unstoppable.

Gonna need to work on a game plan lol.

The technical aspects of the art look so much more improved from past Halo titles. There's a level of complexity that wasn't present in past Halo titles. If we can expect this level of complexity with the art throughout the game, then I absolutely can't wait.

Game looks that good in direct feed, too. The biggest improvement is the art style. Halo's art has never looked this good. A lot of detail and little touches all over the place. In previous Halos you knew you were playing in a sandbox, but now it seems as if the architecture in that sandbox may look significantly more detailed. I'll take that anyday.

None of it is out of focus in direct feed, so you can basically say it looks better because you have a much clearer shot of how much more improved the art is compared to previous Halos. And, as usual, it will look better in motion. I've already seen that same level in video form. So have you. It's in the Halo 4 vidoc, and it looked pretty damn amazing. Off screen, sure, but it looked incredible. And then there was quite a bit of non-offscreen SP footage that looked pretty amazing in that same vidoc as well. It represents quite a jump over the previous Halos. Bungie have already acknowledged themselves that their titles heavy underutilized the 360's CPU, and I guess it really shows with this game.

"We are not supporting 3D TVs or Kinect for Halo 4," said O'Connor.

Good news. Don't waste time on supporting such things.
