The lighting and shadow in this game is far beyond anything its predecessors have been able to offer. Truly up to current standards, and in native 720p as well. Good stuff.

Those colors are Halo so will always be there (i hope), but its obvious that this game even with the covenant will have a darker atmosphere.

Well I agree with the fixed statement. Halo aesthetics have also been unique and giving them up in favor of generic gritty scifi art would be a damn shame.

Actually, it has already been confirmed that this game will have the most realistic, whatever that means, color theme of the Halo series. There will be touches of stuff, reminding you of Halo, but expect a different artistic direction for this one, and I'm not mad about that at all. Pinks and purples will not feature nearly as prominently in this game.

That said, upcoming book spoilers from Halo Glasslands. You have been warned!!! Now, I read this part quite a while ago now, but I'm still stunned by it. Miranda Keyes is Dr. Halsey's daughter!? I had a feeling that Captain Keyes and Halsey might have had a little "thing" for each other all the way back while reading Fall of Reach, but I never would've thought it actually went anywhere. Seriously guys, has any book before this one ever mentioned this little factoid, or is this the book that revealed it? That's pretty damn significant stuff. Don't spoil the rest of the book for me, though, as I've only gotten as far as when they, Port Stanley Crew, first picked up the Engineer. Nonetheless, what an awesome little nugget of info.

Also, I got further in and I still don't feel that Halsey is being crucified in any serious way. A lot of what's said is expected, the Spartan IIs still mostly worship the ground that she walks on, and in parts where you sensed that they might be somewhat uncomfortable with things she said, like the stuff regarding Lucy for example, I thought the author did a very good job at handling those parts. In fact, you see signs of even handedness, as even Mendez knows full well that he himself has no place to crucify Halsey, because he hasn't exactly been any better himself. What he was involved with was far worse than anything Halsey was involved in. I'm seriously enjoying the hell out of this book so far. I had my doubts after some of the reviews I saw on Amazon, but I'm digging it bigtime so far.

Yea, I do get that impression, too, about Halsey. We like her so much because we completely understand her. However, not everybody that would meet her in real life would understand her quite so much, and may get the wrong idea, believing she might look down on people, or is intimidating to approach.

Come to think of it, I don't know, I take that one back. I don't think that's the case. She might be intimidating at first, but she does seem like a very nice lady. For one, I still remember how she literally put Sgt. Johnson's life above the outcome of the entire human vs covenant war when she gave the chief two different pieces of data on the flood, one that would help in different ways, but one that would certainly condemn Johnson to his likely death, and she clearly left the decision to Master Chief, but it was obvious which decision she wanted him to make, and it was to not condemn Johnson. They would just have to make due with the information that doesn't reveal how Johnson survived a flood attack.
