Halo 4 Thread.

If I absolutely had to sum it up, (these aren't spoilers) think of it like Halo 3's legendary ending, where we saw Cortana and the Chief drifting towards a strange planet, but the ending that preceded that, where the warthog flew into the back of the Forward Unto Dawn and then the Arbiter took the controls as the chief almost fell out of the ship -- well, the Halo 4 equivalent to that stuff and what followed are still very much a mystery to me. I have no idea how things concluded.

The epilogue, in my view, doesn't really tell you what went down beforehand, it only clearly hints that SOMETHING obviously crazy went down. Quite a nice shift from previous games, though. I'm loving the vibe that I'm getting.

So you're saying that nothing matters. You don't know how it ended, and that the ending that you saw needed no setup and was almost completely self contained. Yep, sounds like a Halo.

Actually, Phaethon, that ending requires a lot of setup to justify it, but what that setup was with relation to the ending as it was portrayed, I can't really say with 100% certainty, but an ending like that absolutely requires actual in-game justification. It can't just be tossed in there like that and stand as is. It also has a very strong reach directly into the books. Anybody who reads the books will catch on immediately to any number of potential themes that are carried over into the game, and the implications of this are absolutely huge as far as Halo's fiction is concerned. In fact, I feel this is a huge step forward and accomplishment for Halo's fiction. This ending is that good, that skillful. It does so much while at the same time showcasing so much restraint, and it's near impossible to ever find that perfect balance, but somehow 343 managed it.

The ending is quite unlike any Halo game before it in a variety of ways. It's almost insulting to make a direct comparison to previous Halo games, not because Bungie somehow didn't do a good job before, but because this ending, in many ways, truly does represent territory never yet touched upon by any Halo game before it. If your comment is a not so veiled suggestion that 343, based on this ending, somehow didn't live up to, or attempt precisely what they said they would with this game from a narrative standpoint, I would have to say, in no uncertain terms, you would be wayyy wrong about that one. :D

The end is fucking awesome.

All I do know is that it really doesn't spoil what happened before, and really why should it do such a thing in the first place? The game is meant to be enjoyed as a whole, not as a piece of admittedly awesome, but self contained CG that stands in complete isolation to all that happens around it. While I compared it to that scene from Halo 3 of the Chief and Cortana drifting towards a mysterious planet, this ending is far different and far more substantively significant than any Halo game ending prior to it. It pushes Halo's game specific fiction in extremely exciting ways. If you actually watched it, which I'm not sure if you did or not, I suspect you'd rethink that "Yep, sounds like a Halo" comment. :D It garners excitement for the followup to Halo 4 in a way that no Halo game has ever achieved, at least in my personal opinion.

No Halo game's ending has ever mattered as much as this one does. I can safely guarantee that.

It's a co-op campaign that get's new content released each week, right?
So if I jump in a couple of weeks/months later, will I still be able to play all of the missions/content?
And I imagine it's paid extra content right??

Correct each week you get a CG episode that sets up the following 5 coop missions (50 in total)

This is my understanding but i'm not 100% sure.

No the whole first Season 10 Episodes and 50 missions are free, going forward if the get enough interest for season 2 i suspect it will be paid for content.
