No custom games and no system link is really disappointing. That's going to have a huge impact on my Halo Reach beta party plans. Fucking lame.

All sign into live and go into a playlist as one big party.

Should work.

No custom games though :/

I'll be honest, I thought I wasn't going to be remotely excited about headhunter, but I like how it sounds, a lot.

And if you were worried about players flying with the flag via Jet Pack, I can assuage those fears. Won’t happen. If you have hold of the flag, using an Armor Ability will cause you to drop it instantly. Pick it back up, and the effects from your Armor Ability will vanish. Same goes for any multiplayer specific object you can hold in your hot little hands.

Ahh, this would've been pretty damn exciting. So then, I suppose this means no sprinting with a flag either :( I thought it would be possible for someone to just take a flag and fly with it.

But then, maybe it presented serious problems for them with regards to balancing and such? I really have to wonder, though, with armor abilities being such a major part of Reach, as they appear to be, is it practical to not allow the carrying of objects while simultaneously using an armor ability? Is this something that will remain permanent through retail, or is it simply something that didn't make the cut in time for beta?

Oh well, it surprised me, but it isn't something I'll lose sleep over. Proper balance should be a priority, and so I ultimately agree with their decision.

Come on! I know you haven't played much Halo MP, but the concept of flying around with the flag (or even sprinting when some can't!) is sorta silly. Especially when you consider additional objective pick-ups. Do you think that someone should be able to fly around with the skull in oddball? Or fly with the bomb in assault? It's just sorta shocking that you wouldn't see how surprising it would be if you could!

Haha, figured they could just be gunned down in mid air or slaughtered before they had the chance to sprint away, but I'm fine with the way things are.

I admit, I did have all sorts of interesting places I'd attempt to fly off to with the jetpack while holding a flag or something, then from wherever I was, I'd begin picking off key potential threats before I made the final fly down to my objective :P

Guess Bungie planned for everything, though lol :)

Haha, I know I've avoided playing a number of really big multiplayer games online, but I plan on making an exception for Reach and a number of other titles.

I haven't completely avoided playing games online, though. I've played quite a bit of NBA 2K10 online, although not very recently, and a few other various titles that had multiplayer support.

Heh, that's actually just me being 90% silly and 10% hopeful, but here's one instance in which tesselation is explicitly mentioned as being in use in the game.

From the dam spillway beneath Powerhouse’s catwalks, crystal clear water now pours through metal grating, splashing down into the concrete channel below. From there it playfully rolls through the narrow outlet, a vibrant rush of shimmering aquamarine that, to my amazement, appears to pick up tints and tones from the surrounding concrete before making a swift, foamy run down the sun soaked chute into the large, central pool below.

Goldsworthy tells me that my mind may be playing tricks on me. Though the water is in a near final state, the effects I’m imagining are really a technical mixture of bump mapping, tessellation, and other technical tricks that are apparently well outside the realm of my understanding. Explains the confused look on my face as he sloshed the details my way.

All I know is that it looks incredible. The reflection and shimmering atop the water is naturally more visible and pronounced where the sunlight skins the surface and the refraction adds a near photo-realistic and completely hypnotic effect to the water whether I’m peering out across it or leering down through it. The waves rhythmically lap, swell, and undulate. Hell, I think I even saw a rainbow forming in some mist. No joke.
