Ang Lee's hulk looks like a saturday morning cartoon compared to The Incredible Hulk :)
I actually really prefer the way they did the Hulk in the first one. Aside from the brighter green, I thought it was more realistic. I like the thicker, less cut look- looks MORE real to me. I also thought there was a bit more nuance to the way the musculature worked and the way he moved.

After seeing the Avengers, it seems like they had a good mix between the two styles.

I always thought it weird when people say he looks like a cartoon character in the first. Why? 'Cuz he's bright green (like the comics)? Everything else looks phenominal, IMO and it looks more like he has muscle under his skin as opposed to the carved from clay look of the second film. The '08 version almost feels trendy in the body style-like a swimmer or a teenager. The over-cut look looks more fake to me too. Oh well, to each his own...

I just kinda imagine that if you expand to 5 times your regular size, you'd look quite ripped :P

I also by far prefer the face and clothes of Incredible Hulk, Ang Lee's Hulk looks a bit too cartoony for my taste. ALso, i thought the muscle animation/simulation was by far better in Incredible Hulk.

Tagged for those who haven't seen the Avengers film yet..
It will be very interesting to see what they do with Thanos, he's a top tier villain and the avengers shouldn't stand a chance (yes, even Hulk).

The Avengers Vs Xmen series is turning out to be very good too.

Avatar was on tv last week, but I didn't really like it....the plot seemed stupid (it looked like an anime girl was teaching a disguised human how to be man or anime man whatever). And the CG looked pretty bad too, I don't understand why they didn't go with Star Trek type aliens (human characters with makeup and plastic attachments) which look far more believable and "realistic" than anything in Avatar. I shut it off after 20 mins, probably won't watch it again.

Also Lost continues to amaze me, this is by far the best tv show I have seen

Avatar was OK bu easily forgettable.
I love the planet though, very colorful.

Would i watch it again? if I was bored and had nothing special to do at the time when its on TV, yes I might.
Its way overrated IMO, and yes, i hate those Navi designs.

CGI was great.

Wait a second, Avatar didn't have good CG? You need to go to a hospital and get that brain tumour removed, or start wanking again or something, becuase all is not right here :P

I can certainly agree that the plot really isn't anything special, it's just Cameron doing what he does best; icredibly two dimensional characters in a plot that's incredibly easy to get in to so that by the end you are really rooting for the good guys and really hate the bad guys...which kinda falls apart a wee bit if you start thinking about it too much.

Still, i don't se how you could go in to that movie without bias and not come out entertained. It's not a storytelling masterpiece but surely there are a lot of worse movies to watch.

I saw it 3 times in the theater just to get the mazing 3D :P

BF3 doesn't look good unless you have a $500 graphic card to run it on Ultra with 4XMSAA. Crysis is a far better looking game on my hardware...better water shaders, better clothes shaders, better skin shanders, better environments etc etc etc. On top of that the game isn't a jaggy mess like BF3.

I mean there are things you can do to Crysis in the config file....turn the wind up to 3 and have all the vegetation sway in the wind realistically, play it with the mster's config which looks way better the vanilla game etc etc. I could go on and on.....

But anyway I thought the lighting on characters looked really substandard, and so was the animation...while watching I said, "damn even Jurassic park looks better than this." I didn't watch the full movie but that part (where the girl is training the human) looked bad

I thought it looked better. Maybe not the cg, but flawed practical is almost always better in my book than cg, which is always flawed anyways.

How does prefering practical effects make the CG in Jurassic park better than Avatar? I like practical effects too, the CG was still a bazillion times better in Avatar.

I'm not sure really why it is, but some movies just look like trash a year later and some look great even a decade down the road
Jurassic Park has really held up well over all these years

In regards to this conversation though, I haven't seen Avatar since I saw it in theaters so I can't really speak on it.
When movies try to cg humans though it generally always looks awful

lol i personally did not mean it like that... cg in avatar is untouchable in my eyes, but i prefer what is it now "animatronics"?

Probably because of technical limitations. I mean the CG shots in The Abyss were awesome at the time but look really lame today, mainly because CG as come such a long way since 89. I think, however, that a film like Avatar that is like 90% pure CG and really well made to boot, will still look alright a few years on. I mean, in the case of Jurassic park i think they had puppetry and animatronics pretty much nailed down, whereas CG is a thing that is still evolving and changeing over time. Just imagine working on some of the modeling needed for high resolution models and props prior to programs like Zbrush or Mudbox. What a goddamn nightmare. Then again, in time i expect real time graphics will make us look at that stuff and go "Huh, so that was amazing back then, was it?" But currentl it's still some of the best damn CG available, wheter you likeit or not.

Well it was mainl aimed at Ronsauce. Still i just assumed we were talking CG, not overall look of the movie. Feels kinda weird to go CG v Practical all of a sudden, just for some lame attempt to salvage a weird opinion (DoomBringer in this case).

And that's what I meant as well. Obviously the cg in Avatar is of a higher quality than that in Jurassic Park, but the cg in Jurassic Park was used more to my liking.

And in the interest of full disclosure, I'm really not a fan of Avatar at all. It was boring and awkward and the action was uninspired. When everything's a special effect, no effects are special. It's just a personal opinion heavily influenced by look, but if it had been practical, I would have been far more engrossed by it. That's just how I feel in general. Hellboy 2 wouldn't have been as amazing to me if all the creatures were cg.

Just watched "In time" with justin timberlake. It was pretty good. Premis was probably better then the execution, but generally it was an enjoyable watch.

@ the whole CGI/practical effects debate. I think it's entirely dependable on the quality of the cgi. If it's as believable as avatar where you no longer question whether it is CGi or real, then it's fine, but if it's as obvious and low quality as say, the 3 prequel star wars films, then i'd rather they go back to models, sets and prosthetics/animatronics since the movie would look better for it.
