I was really surprised that Cortana was being held hostage like that in Skyfall. But I guess when you've been found out as Bond's wife it's only a matter of time.
I was really impressed that they used that part of the books like that, wasn't expecting it. Made all my dreams come true

Like I said Sath, you're the last person who should be talking to anybody about what it means to be "silly." You're the kind of person, after all, who is basically known for making an issue out of why someone isn't playing a particular game on a console of your choosing.

And what some of our resident rocket scientists have failed to realize about the newly created Halo thread, is that it was created out of an abundance of caution to avoid dropping major spoilers about the game's story smack dab in the middle of a discussion thread where people are currently in the process of playing the game, or maybe haven't yet finished the campaign. It was an attempt at very basic courtesy, but needless to say people said "fuck that" and instead did everything they could to muddy the waters between the two threads.

Well anything LOTR related, I am there, big fan...and fantasy in general.
But I saw some scenes from their blog videos, last one, #9, looked nice.

Yep, I should've known to trust LOTR, because it hasn't failed me yet. I got caught up in all that criticism about how fake (or how it looked so real that it looked cheap) the movie supposedly looked due to the fact that Jackson was recording the movie at 48fps instead of the more traditional 24 fps.

I'm all for getting used to 48fps, though. It might look weird at first, but sooner or later some of the unbelievably impressive things on screen combined with the supposedly more real look of everything, may just end up impressing people that much more.

Yeah the FPS has me worried, and add 3D to it then, well I dont know. I got to experience it myself before i go mad or anything. In the end, i have to watch it so it doesnt matter anyways. If the end product is a nice fantasy movie to have in collection then I am fine with that.

I checked some the tracks of the OST, very nice, really liking the main theme of it.

Some have suggested that 48fps might be the biggest mistake ever for a potential magic and fantasy type movie such as LOTR, but might be more appropriate for movies with more realistic looking subject matter, like maybe an action movie or drama. However, I'm still compelled to say, "why the heck can't this thing work on pretty much any kind of movie?"

Some of the things I heard are downright scary. Some say it would make movies look more like soap operas or those 120hz and 240z televisions that unrealistically speed things up on screen, making them look incredibly fake, and if that's what this 48fps experiment will ultimately lead to, then I say it's better to go with the, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mantra.

However, that would be a concern if all big budget movies do is just rely on some cameras, they don't. They use all sorts of computer and post processing work, and how good or bad any one movie looks may simply just come down to how good a job they do with the post production phase of the movie, and should we really be concerned about that from top studios? I also do often times desire for some of the scarier, more intimidating scenes in movies to look more convincing. Maybe 48fps might be the solution to this problem.

I dont know, I mean my TV has that fake speed and i seen it, and it doesnt look all that good. It looks more like documentary than anything else and I dont like it at all.
Now how this 48fps thing is going, I dont know until I see it, but as you said...if its anything like the fake speed these HDTV have then it will be a pain.

I read the news here in Sweden that SF theater company wont get the new technology with 3D and 48fps in time for the premier and fans are upset about it to not be able to see the way PJ made it, so for the next 9 day after premier its regular 2D with 28fps, IMO if that is how I can see it, then I dont mind (depending on day and time).

But if I watch it when tech arrives well, hopefully I wont get annoyed by speed, I know i will get annoyed by 3D since i get headaches from time to time since i use my regular glasses and the 3D ones so there is like a slight "weight" on my upper nosebridge and that pisses me off.

But who knows what will happen and how it will turn out, I just hope it doesnt suck in general lol.

All about the post-production work. If it happens to look unrealistically fast, then they obviously screwed up. I certainly wouldn't mind significantly more realistic looking movies. In fact, I've been dying for that very clear barrier or distinction between movie and a live broadcast, for example, to be destroyed for some time now. If they can somehow get a movie to look as realistic as, well, real, everyday life while at the same time still giving us those unbelievable and epic scenes or set pieces that we've come to expect in our big budget blockbusters, then I'm totally all for it, because that's really what this 48fps thing is suppose to be all about, isn't it?

They will be releasing the movie in both old and new methods nonetheless, so it may just amount to a whole lot of nothing when all is said and done.

Indeed. I wonder if we'll see the film converted to 24fps for the masses. It may just be something we need to "get used to," but like it or not, people are really adjusted to 24fps. 48 is going to look funky.

That's for sure. What I think they need to do is take an extraordinary step and give us the first 10-15 minutes of the movie in 48fps for free or something, as part of a promotion for both the movie and the new tech. Help people ease their way into it. Hell, I say even a full 20 minutes doesn't seem unreasonable.

Sounds crazy, but if they want it to work, they might have to be prepared to take some pretty extreme steps.
