Just finished watching "seeking a friend for the end of the world" and i liked it, it had a constantly kinda horrible vibe being the end of days and all, quite depressing i guess, but it made for a unique backdrop for what is a pretty cliché rom-com. But unlike most rom-com, there really isn't the truly happy ending you'd want seeing as the world ends and all. For what it was, It was good.

Saw Taken 2 this weekend. Clearly not as good as the first... Beginning was actually hopefull, but then they let the daughter who failed her driving test twice, do a fucking car chase and she drives into an US embassy

Nah was not impressed with the film.

Yea, Taken 2 wasn't as good as the first. It went away from so much of what made it good in the first.

I think it took too long to get into it, and to explain itself. Everyone who went to see it had seen the first one, pretty much. Everyone who went to see it knew the premise. It would have been fine if there was like 20 minutes of backstory and then BAM, Liam Neeson kicking ass.

I actually think it was the opposite. I think they rushed things too much in this one. They just forced the issue way more than I think they needed to. You are correct about the backstory part. They could have put more work into building out and developing the circumstances for this movie, which is a huge part of what made the first one so great. It wasn't just him eventually kicking ass, it was all the little things that built the larger picture. You really felt as if Liam was all around the damn place looking for his daughter. One moment he's hiring a guy that speaks the same language as the criminals so he can gather information on them, the next he's going to one of their secret locations where they hold girls to check if his daughter is there, the next he's in a cool car chase, the next he's nursing this girl back to health that he found, trying to gather some information about his daughter from her, then he's meeting with an old friend he's hoping can help him out, then he poses as a cop to go infiltrate one of their bases, then he's torturing the shit out of the dude that ran his mouth to him, then he's punking his corrupt friend in his own house in front of his wife, then he's forcing some dude to bid on his daughter, then he's chasing on a fucking boat kicking ass. I mean, the dude was EVERYWHERE.

They took the safe, lazier route with this one, didn't like it.

The Hobbit.

More colourful and less apocalyptic than LOTR, but still really great.

Also, you can tell the stone giants and the Goblin King were designed by Guillermo del Toro.

All in all, really liked it. The whole necromancer sub-plot is really cool too, good to see it explored rather than in the books where Gandalf just leaves them to it without much explanation why. Also, they ended it in a great way, I didn't feel like they stretched it out unnecissarily. One thing I kinda dislike is that, although they have actual physical sets, all the goblins are CGI rather than costumed Kiwis like the last trilogy. Azog looks like the big Engineer guy from Prometheus.

Sounds good, alot of mixed impressions its hard to know how to take it unless you see it for yourself which IMO is the best way to form the opinion, especially if you like LOTR universe.

I for one will probably go next week to see it in 3D HFR version and hope it doesnt annoy me, but people say its fantastic, some say its bad lol.

I seen it in 2D because 3D/HFR doesn't interest me (and it costs more), so I can't judge it on that.

Another thing to mention is that there are many, MANY references to LOTR. Some are almost a bit cringy.

Peter Jackson is going to have to make up so much shit and then pull it out of his ass.

No wonder he lost all that damn weight, he was getting 3 movies out!

DAMN!

Lord of the Rings was a 1200 page epic that they had to whittle down to become a 10hr trilogy.

The Hobbit is a 320 page book they're blowing up into a 10hr cash vacuum.

I know LOTR is too big of a brand for them to just let settle into the annals of history, but it'd be nice if they didn't milk it for every last drop.

I will marathon it when it's on blu-ray. Extended Drector's Cut Collector's Cartographer Re-release Anniversary Edition.

Yup. Everyone knows 1 book = 1 movie. Everything else is filler.

And you heard it people. 320 pages is a "thin book." Phaethon only reads shit that starts at 1000 pages.

I don't see how Peter Jackson making stuff up that never happened in the book makes it truer to Tolkien. I'm not a stickler for story authenticity, but when you're padding to sell tickets (and reviews aren't that great either) I'm not along for the ride. Enjoy though. I'm sure they'll get your money's worth.

I mean seriously people. The last Harry Potter book was 784 pages and it was cut into TWO films. You don't see how you don't need THREE movies for 320 pages, where half of them are to describe rocks and whose lineage was the most royal of the olden dwarfdom?

This post is dumb.

I agree with Phaethon360, this should have never been a Trilogy, I could have passed 2 movies, ideally should have been only one 3 hour with a 3 and a half hour EE, but no Jackson has to put as many boring shit in the films as he can.

Is The Two Towers all over again, boring way too long scenes that make no sense whatsoever.

He didn't make up any part of this movie, at all.

If it isn't all from the Hobbit, it's in the appendices for ROTK or in Unfinished Tales. He did this because during the hobbit, Gandalf fucks off randomly and says, "gonna fight the embodiment of evil itself brb" and leaves them to their adventure, only to turn up at the end.
