I don't see any major differences in that comparison video. The tokyo environment still has that basic flat lighting in both versions, and characters sort of look out of place in some areas. Besides different mapping and textures for the characters, it really isn't that large of an upgrade.

I think all this recently released media on the co-op mode can only point to one thing: some real effort going into it on Team Ninja's side. Good for them. I hope it will turn out well and help people forget about the toned down gore.

I knew it! Ryu is using contacts :p

I hope they can improve the loading times until release. In the preview builds loading takes hours lol

There is a resolution upgrade for the PS3 version (720p native as opposed to the sub HD resolution of NG2), which is probably the largest visual upgrade for Sigma 2. Every other upgrade are slightly more detailed textures on character models.

NGS2 just have higher resolution which means the game looks much sharper, the characters have more details and textures.
Environment is more of a cosmetic change for example in NG2 the blossoms falling isn't much while in NGS2 there is alot and the colors are a bit different.
And NGS2 has blur and depth of field effect were NG2 didn't.

It's the other way around. PS3 is on LEFT and 360 is on RIGHT.

@Pacific84

yeah, NGS2 is the winner in terms of graphics. Sweet textures. It seems they also using more polygons for some of the little details.

Crazy comparison. a good screen grab vs. a artifacted image people should dismiss as shoddy, and keep going on as the better looking? Oh well, crazy.

Both games have diferent colours now, the only aspect to put side by side is speed of combat, frame-rate, enemy count and the inclusion/lack of dismembrant/body parts/gore.

Nice gameplay and nice implementation of the coop but i hate the censorship. The violence of the "original" NG II was one of the best thing of the game, now we have only some little splash of blood and a lot of violet cloud.
this censorship affect all versions or only in some regions??

According to Hayashi he says ESRB or whatever its called doesn't allow alot of blood for their videos, I don't how to take it. Maybe there will be more blood like NG1 than what we have seen here (yes including the essence mist) in the retail. However, DO NOT quote me on this, it is what I have read.
From what I understand, Japan is not going to have head decapitation...god knows if the idiots do it as well in EU, just like NG1/NGB/NGS.
IF they do it again I will be absolutely pissed off and I will buy it from US. But considering that decapitations is a big gameplay mechanic I don't think they will remove it.

Ayane on NG2 looks like plastic surgey went wrong :P

Side by side and you will see the colors and filters are different for sure, but you will also see environment changes as well. From colors and filters to particles (falling blossoms and god knows what else). Hayashi said that all levels from NG2 that is back on NGS2 is going to have a makeover.
NG2 might have bloom and HDR but NGS2 has it as well but not in the same place as NG2, and NGS2 has better details thanks to 720p and blur motion and depth of field like NGS.

Here is 3 examples of NGS2 depth of field
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/207/9588...
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/203/9588...
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2009/176/9588...

But whatever, in a game like NG, gameplay is what matters and not visuals. As long as they fix the problems of NG2 for NGS2 and deliver a very good NG title then that is what matters.

Here is what Hayashi said about the ESRB stuff:
In the previous post (and ever since we announced Sigma 2 back in March), there were many comments about the violence/gore level in this game compared to NGII, which we released over a year ago on the 360. As in our response, our goal is to create one of most challenging action games and we believe that can be achieved without all of attention going to the amount of blood that is used throughout the game. (Not to mention the fact that ESRB advertising guidelines do NOT allow decapitation in trailers even if the game is rated “M” for Mature, so we haven’t been able to include any footage of that in our trailers…dismemberment is allowed, but no decapitation.)

I don't get, decapitations ARE in every video they released so what does he mean with they dont allow it?
Decapitations are obviously limbs getting cut off and obviously its there...do they mean other parts of limbs?

For example right now in the footages for example it shows when you cut off a leg, the leg dissapears within the mist. IF I know what he means by his statement then it could mean limbs that gets cut off doesn't get removed with the mist and falls on the ground.
If that was what he meant then great news.

Sath, decapitation means the head is seperated from the body. It doesn't apply to other limbs. That's why he says: "dismemberment is allowed, but no decapitation".

Aparently, chopping off every limb of someone's body is fine...as long as the head remains attached to the body...lol. ;)

Haha aha okay now I get it.
Well that sucks and funny at the same time.

Well one thing is for sure, the demo is coming out a few weeks before the release which means demo is coming in September. My guess is US, EU and JP PSN will get it before release probably at the same time, so that way I can play the US version and EU version and compare if they have censored anything for EU, if so...I will try and import the US CE version.

And I think its hilarious to defend the tons of useless blood in NG2 altough NG, NGB and NGS never showed so much blood and no one ever has complained about it. Gore and blood is and was NEVER the focus in the Ninja Gaiden games.
That's also what Hayashi said. And he's right. It's a great design choice. Sometimes you couldn't even see the enemies on the ground just because thousands of arms and legs covering the floor.

BTW, you can still cut the enemies in pieces. Should be enough IMO.

Coopp gameplay is very nice. I love watching knewbies playing this game :) Reminds on me when I first played Ninja Gaiden on Xbox.
You cannot complain about something you didnt have before. We are complaining about something thats been TONNED down, not about having blood where there wasnt before. The add of blood was a great thing, showed great scenes full of violence, blood and action. Not for everyone? We agree there; there should be an option to switch it off perhaps. A great design choice to erase it? We are talking about taking out something the original game introduced for the first time in the series. Taking it out is always a bad decision; making it optional would be great.

And yes I am buying the damn game for my PS3 because it still rocks, and playing coop has to be fckin great. Its ok if you dont like blood in NG (I still dont understand the reason cause in a game like this violence and blood should be everywhere) but let us express our opinions about a stupid design choice. It doesnt spoil the game, but its still plain retarded to tone down a game 1 year after the release.
