Loakum Ugh….scratch that previous comment. The upcoming Game of Thrones video game is a F’in mobile phone game. Why can’t they came an open world GoT game, like Witcher 3 or God of War? (> 3 Months ago)

Your only arguments so far have been "I don't care, doesn't affect me" and there hasn't been one argument as to a Pro vs all the Cons.
And while this is technically a rumor, it is not unsubstantiated. The source count for this rumor was at 11 separate verified sources last time I checked. And not a single person has said "No, this is not what MS is doing," not even as a hoax. The Creative Director may have just been fired for leaking the info in the shittiest way possible.
Alienating 40% of your userbase without a single good reason. Why stop at anything when people will say "Hey, doesn't affect me, I got games!"

Since 6649 DaysIt's no longer xbox live where you throw on a single player game and wait till the servers are back up or your connection stabalises. It essentially checks whether you are online before you even see the dashboard and at any time you lose connection while ingame you are booted out within 3 minutes. Perhaps thats why they went for a similar suspend and resume system as the PS4 cause this is gonna happen.
Simcity and diablo were only the tip of the iceberg, they were 1 system designed per game for about 1 miliion users and they couldnt cope. Scale that up to a massive service covering hundreds of games and 10's of millions of users and it's not hard to imagine it buckling under the strain quite often.
It also gives publishers some scary control over their games, they already turn servers off so your inability to access multiplayer could extend to not even being able to start the game at all if the publisher so chooses. Can't wait to see what happens when simcity 2014 hits, is simcity 5 just gonna stop working as online is needed for the singleplayer.

Since 7449 DaysBut if Microsoft is planning a low power mode where the console does the updating, does the authentication, then the gamer wouldn't be burdened with the process at all. Just a brief check up that gamer isn't even aware of and they get right to playing in whatever mode they want. Maybe there would only be a one-time activation that the gamer is actually aware of, the rest of the process could run passively. At least that's what the document is trying to communicate.
You see Grift, while everyone is looking at this from the no-internet POV, I've been looking at it from those like myself WHO ARE connected and HAVE decent broadband. If you live in a household where you have to share your internet, an "always online" requirement would be an impediment. Many of my friends are married, have wives and kids who come home and use their connection for work, school and non-gaming entertainment. They have to wait until they're done or stop playing before they can resume gaming. They can't host or play without lag and other connection issues. So unless you live alone and don't have to share, "always online" would be a pain in the ass.
I simply can't imagine Microsoft not viewing this issue from all the angles.
Since 7577 DaysBy the way: I meant that what is outlined in the document above *isn't very frightening. And to respond to your speculation: I don't like the idea of this sort of DRM on the console either, but it's less ridiculous/offensive to me.
I basically still want DRM-free discs on my consoles. That's all I want. Heavy handed DRM is bad enough on the PC where it doesn't encompass the platform entirely. It sorta defeats the purpose of a console for me. Convenience.

Since 7577 DaysPaul Thurrott also believes the internet is making a big deal over nothing. While simultaneously adding to rumor pile. This is sounding pretty likely.
I just want to hear the details. Speculation is far from promising.
"on the tech podcast he said it would be "expensive" like 500 or 300 with subsidized plan" -- Also interesting. He seems to lend some credibility to the idea of subsidization/subscription.
Since 7469 DaysThat's my best guess so far, because even Thurrot is suggesting he doesn't have the specific details.

"So the new Xbox that comes out this year will just be the Xbox. And I mentioned before they're also going to sell a new Xbox 360 code-named 'Stingray' that will be $99. And you might look at that as two things: backwards compatibility, obviously, suggesting—I don't actually know this for a fact, but based on the fact that they're making one—I don't think that the new Xbox will play 360 games. But that I don't actually know, that I'm guessing. But, the other one is that, $99, that's a real coo price. And so we know that the Xbox 360 does Netflix, Hulu Plus, yada yada yada, and you can make the argument that's kind of a low cost entertainment device, too.
"Durango is going to be expensive [laughs], you know $500, $300 for the subscription, that kind of thing, but you know, Blu-ray, blah blah blah, but the thing that interest me, going back and looking at some of the stuff I got a long time ago, it actually says 'must be internet-connected to use' in the notes. And that's all I have, but it does say that.
[Is that a bad thing?]
"I don't know because I don't know what it means. You know, when you look at some of the stories that were coming out this week about, you know, I saw a headline that said something like 'Next Xbox could be okay without an internet connection for as long as 3 minutes' or something like that. I don't even know what that means, so for me, Xbox 360 is almost entirely an online experience. Most of the games I play are multiplayer, where you're playing against other people online. Or you're using it as an entertainment device when you're connected to a service like Netflix or Xbox video, so that is an internet-connected device. In this phrase, it says 'must be internet-connected to use', you know, that suggests that you can't even boot into the UI and play—I don't know, I don't know, I don't have one.
"Originally, they were going to announce this thing in April—April 24—now they're going to announce it May 21. We know there are events occuring this year where we're going to learn more about Durango.
[And it's a fourth quarter release, right?]
"Early November, yeah. E3 is going to occur. BUILD is going to occur in San Francisco in June when they're going to talk about the developer story because it's a Windows 8 device. It's going to have the same, or basically the same, developer tools and developer APIs and all that kind of stuff. So I think there's a lot information to come, but I look at all this stuff that I've seen about Durango and I think, 'it's all positive.' I don't really see any bad news here at all. Like to me, everything I've seen about this is really positive. It's amazing to me that, based on like no information at all, everyone is like freaking out about everything. Aside from this online thing, by the way, the number one question I've gotten from people is, 'What does it look like?' Who gives a shit what it looks like?
"I've actually heard from, by the way not one or two people, several people who've said, 'based on what I've seen, Sony is going to blow them away.' Based on what you've seen? You've seen nothing. What are you talking about? No, but you've seen literally nothing from Microsoft.
[I don't think that's even a possibility considering how many people use Xbox LIVE... You're not going to have this mass Xbox audience jumping to Sony.]
"The problem Microsoft has has nothing to do with Sony or Nintendo anymore, it's Roku and AppleTV. The market for hardcore video games, the market of people will always buy the next Gears of War game, the next Halo game, the next Call of Duty game, it's fairly finite. It's a decent market, yada yada yada, it's not the market for tablets, it's not the market for smartphones.
