You do have a point. It's been immensely negative but the news is still dominated by ALL THINGS Microsoft. lol. I wonder if anyone even remembers the Sony reveal in February? As I recall it wasn't mind blowing by any stretch, which means that Sony didn't set the bar very high for Microsoft. Sony might regret not doing enough if what Microsoft eventually reveals actually excites gamers.

Remember you only really get one chance to make a lasting impression, and right now no one is talking about the PS4.

Still it's a little difficult to see how Microsoft benefits from all of it, some of this stuff has been pretty toxic and they seem to be losing mind-share with every single article/rumor that's released. But gamers are still holding off final decisions, so opinions on the new Xbox won't be cemented until there's better clarification on these issues.

One thing that I'm noticing is that Microsoft appears to be very confident in whatever it is that they've got planned. There doesn't seem to be a need to rush out and combat rumors, or even spin anything positively for themselves. They DID make it very clear that Adam Orth was not representing the company with his comments. That tells me that at least some of this stuff is being blown out of proportion and that official announcements will give us a much clearer picture.
All these bad rumors about 720 are horrible and turning people off at least the gamers who are even thinking about considering 720. Only good rumor was 2 APU but that seems to now change and there will be some other device for backward compatibility sold seperately it seems ?

Also PS4 reveal was a huge success. PS4 teaser got viral and even releasing 20th Feb was the most watched youtube video of the month.http://www.gamesthirst.com/2013/03/11/the-most-watched-video-in-youtube-in-february-was-ps4-ad/

Most people already know what to expect from Microsoft. They don't have any pros this time with early launch, price, perofmrance and obviously games. Unless it is totally different from what rumors say about 720 it is hard for any rational gamer to get excited.

Funny headline on Bluesnews:

"Microsoft's next Xbox will take over your TV, interact with your cable box. No word on whether it plays games. "
http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/10/4208970/next-xbo...

Knowing Bluesnews... sarcasm was intended.

And this from joystiq
Report: Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth no longer with company

Adam Orth, the Microsoft Studios creative director who caused a stir among consumers last week by tweeting his opinions on "always-on" devices, is no longer a Microsoft employee, according to "two sources" speaking with Polygon.

Last week, Microsoft publicly apologized for Orth's comments, saying that "this person is not a spokesperson for Microsoft, and his personal views do not reflect the customer centric approach we take to our products or how we would communicate directly with our loyal consumers."

We have reached out to Microsoft for a statement on the situation and will update this story if we learn more.

Right. What accounts for Microsoft's "existing IP" from last gen? Halo, Forza and Fable? Come on. Make this list. I want to see this stunning first party stable that doesn't exist :D
Well, I think you already know what you'll hear, and remember you asked for this :P (sequels assemble!!)

Halo 3
Halo Wars
Halo 3: Odst
Halo Reach
Halo 4
Forza Motorsport 2
Forza Motorsport 3
Forza Motorsport 4
Forza Horizon
Project Gotham Racing 3
Project Gotham Racing 4
Banjo: Nuts and Bolts
Fable 2
Fable 3

Yes, I seriously separated the sequels to make the list longer (:p), but I felt it was necessary to get a basic point across. Microsoft, of their existing IPs that were carried over from the first Xbox, certainly have both quality and numbers, and just because there's plenty enough sequels or twists on existing IP on this list, it doesn't somehow make the experience or enjoyment that gamers receive from each new installment less meaningful or legitimate. Each installment, for better or worse, is always a new experience. Microsoft's First Party stable of existing IP, whether one chooses to acknowledge it or not, absolutely exists and is not a myth. I can pull the same samey looking list on the PS3 side if I wanted, because it exists on there, too. Sony's first party efforts aren't exactly all gems and they make mistakes, too, just like Microsoft's first party's have. Sony, too, is also heavily reliant on sequels of existing IP, and when they find something new that seems to work, they aren't opposed to milking it just like Microsoft, Activision, EA, or even Ubisoft would with their respective franchises.

Now never mind my personal opinion of every single one of these games, particularly ones I refused to get for one reason or another (Halo wars/ODST), but these games, either way, are all existing Microsoft owned IP that are generally considered by most to be a cut above the typical crap that you would pick up for a game console, and these games were spread out and saw frequent release to the millions of 360 owners over the years that might have taken even a passing interest in either one of them. I'm honestly not all that very fond of what I got from Fable this generation. It was most disappointing, I felt. I have said on more than one occasion that, of all existing Microsoft IP, it's the one I was anticipating the most, and I felt completely letdown by what I played. That doesn't mean, however, that I'm not completely paying attention to a potential followup on a next gen xbox, and it also doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of people who disagree with me and did in fact enjoy the Fable games this gen. Everybody in my family that games loved Fable 2. I hated it. Now this list might look particularly depressing, if not for the fact that each and every single thing on that list is complimented by an incredible lineup of varied and quality third party content. And when you toss in some of the new IP, particularly ones that people absolutely loved (I know which mine are), Microsoft really didn't do nearly as bad for themselves on the first party front as most would have you believe, they just aren't seen as having outdone Sony, big difference. Let's see how they do on their third go around, but I've never been all that obsessed with how many first party games are being churned out, so long as it looked to me like the platform was being properly supported and it's hard to argue that the Xbox 360 wasn't, even if it's true that Microsoft dropped the ball late in the game, everybody can admit that. And Sony has the edge there, that is clearly evident now with things like Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls on the way, but Microsoft could do a whole hell of a lot worse than an incredible swan song such as Halo 4 that was such an impressive showcase for the system and, I will continue to believe, the best campaign installment in the franchise, but that's just my opinion.

Microsoft has never been more aggressive than they appear to be prior to the launch of the next xbox in opening up new studios and trying to get new strong IP, and having a guy like Phil Spencer onboard, who really knows his shit and takes games very seriously, also can't hurt along the way either.

So FIOS TV is behind the times? Well, the one thing that I feel I always need is some television to watch. I can't be without it. Even though I mostly watch the news most of the day, then some NBA, and then occasionally watch some Spartacus, Game of Thrones, and specific movies etc.

Be honest scoobs, you know you watch LMN (Lifetime Movie Network) 24/7 :P

Actually you're reaffirming the point that I made. You're IN an Xbox thread, TALKING about the next Xbox.

As for the rumors..............well look at them. VGleaks (as I always knew they would) are carefully walking back from their earlier claims Suddenly used games are IN, BC is there for the gamer who just can't live without it, and it looks like the "always on" speculation is turning out to have been completely misunderstood. And this is just the beginning, I predict that they're going to soon cover their asses from their own interpretation of the hardware specs. Look at what VGLeaks is NOW saying-
Microsoft’s delay in announcing these products from April goes more inline with not having a physical set of devices to show (among specification updates), which should be ready by May or June when this information is officially released.
As soon as I read this I said to myself, "Well, well, well. It was only a matter of time."

The problem as always with rumors is that you are listening to 2nd hand information, and that information has probably changed hands numerous times before it reaches these game sites and forums. So for months we've been told no used games and always on, now it looks like these "insiders" were either mislead, or misunderstood the information they were given.

And as I said earlier in this thread, ALL of this speculative crap happened exactly the same way during the start of this generation. People swore they knew the specs for the Xbox 360, and they were all proven wrong. And so once again we've entered the silly season of gaming. Take whatever you are reading or hearing with a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of caution.

a swan song really shouldn't be an entire year before the end of the consoles life though imo. i would hope MS would announce something else to end the generation. maybe at E3?

I'd prefer that, too, maybe like how the original Xbox, I think, had jade empire April of the same year that the Xbox 360 came out (which I played on the PC much, much later). However, maybe it just wasn't practical for Microsoft this time with the way they were planning things. It makes a ton of sense for them to devote as many of their development resources as possible to the next Xbox, to really make sure they come out swinging on the next system. Anything they announce at this point, especially if it looks really good, would automatically have people questioning the level of sense it makes to not save it for the next xbox, which, ironically, is exactly what a lot of folks said about Halo 4.

Crytek's first-person melee game Ryse will be a launch title for the next Xbox, according to a new report.

The Verge's Tom Warren, who has an excellent track record on Microsoft, said Ryse, announced during E3 2011 as an Xbox 360 game with Kinect functionality, has been reworked for the next Xbox.

Apparently Ryse is pitched as "Microsoft's new Gears of War / Halo mega launch title".

The news tallies with information that emerged in December 2011, when the LinkedIn profile of a former Crytek developer mentioned Ryse was an "X-Box Next Gen" project.

According to The Verge, Ryse will take advantage of the more powerful Kinect 2 for body tracking improvements.

Ryse was originally know as Kingdoms and made its first appearance at Microsoft's E3 conference in 2010. Since then it has shifted from Crytek's Budapest studio to its Frankfurt one, with the most recent reports suggesting that Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games was also involved.

"The development team shifted, but for different reasons than people assume," Crytek's Cevat Yerli told Eurogamer in August 2012.

"People think it's because it didn't work out, but actually it was a studio redirection - we wanted Budapest to focus a bit more on mobile and tablet, and they released Fibble, which was quite an excursion for Crytek. And we'll do more casual stuff but that's also free-to-play.

"With Ryse, the game is moving forward really well - we just can't talk about it."

Another launch title is, predictably, a new Forza racing game, with "super life-like" graphics. The Verge failed to mention a developer - presumably it's Turn 10 following last year's Forza Horizon, developed by Playground.

There's also a mystery zombie game and a family game set on an island with "Pixar movie-style graphics". The latter will use Kinect to scan a body and generate an avatar in the game.

Elsewhere, third-party support "is said to be strong" in the FPS genre. As Eurogamer previously reported, Microsoft is working to change Xbox Live so it uses currency instead of Microsoft Points.

Microsoft is reported to be ready to announce the next Xbox at an event at the end of May before a star turn at E3 in June.

bit too much mention of kinect there for me. i just can't see a game that uses kinect being the next gears/halo. but maybe if it's entirely optional?

Man that'd be a bit of a dumbass thing for Sony to pass on.

Forza, Ryse and Battlefield would be a pretty good start for Microsoft I think. It's not really doing much for me personally, but there's a bit of variety there and it covers some of the fundamentals.

I think the really remarkable thing about that link is that it's generally positive Microsoft news! Who knew?! ;)

Nah, just fired for embarrassing the company and insulting potential customers. I don't think he necessarily confirmed anything. What he did was just really stupid for someone in his position. And I'm not so sure about that Crytek game...

http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/11/4212054/next-xbo...
We're told Ryse is designed to be Microsoft's new Gears of War / Halo mega launch title. It's set in the Roman Empire period and uses deep Kinect integration to allow players to slash and kick at enemies.
Better be more heavily controller than Kinect. If it isn't a careful balancing act between the controller and Kinect, with the controller getting more of the focus while Kinect is more limited to specific actions, then I can easily see it being in trouble. Not interested in standing up while I game. Games are meant to be played one way, and one way only.

I doubt Sony are stupid enough to pass on BF4. I don't see it happening.
