Yes it seems that this new Kinect is what they intended back in the day. I was not impressed with this current Kinect. Lag, environment restrictions, etc. I've tried searching the marketplace with voice using kinect, and navigating the dashboard, or swapping in other players on Happy Action Theater. It was all beta hardware. Sorry that is all it was. Remember when Xbox LIVE arcade launched way back when on the original Xbox? That is what MS does, they roll out new tech, and don't even get it anywhere near right, until the next generation. I think kinect will be a lot better, not perfect, but more of what they intended.
Sorry for the ramble.
Somewhere between announcing Project Natal and it being branded Kinnect, Microsoft downgraded the device in order to make it just "a bit expensive", rather than "very". It's not surprising how things have played out as a result.

Now that one is included in every Xbox One and closer to the original vision, some creative uses may yet be found for it but TV voice / gesture control is a solution looking for a problem if you ask me.

A solution looking for a problem is a terribly accurate description.

We're years into kinect and still talking about potential. I'm not buying that.

I would say the Wii and the iPhone aptly demonstrate that innovation on the input side of things can lead to compelling games that wouldn't work on a gamepad. That Microsoft hasn't yet created an environment for potential to be explored doesn't mean there isn't any there.

That being said, their first party developers need to lead the way in that respect so if they don't have anything compelling at E3 then prospects are not good.

But there's a reason the likes of Valve are experimenting with the wearable computing stuff, they've just been more circumspect about it and saved themselves the embarrassment of over-promsiing and hoping people forget about it.

If anything I would say the best idea's come from indie developers with stuff like gimmicky controls, sadly MS don't seem too open to that.

One argument I don't hear to often is PSN+ vs. Xbox Live bang for the buck. I think Xbox Live in general offers a better multiplayer experience,
but with PSN+ you get better sales, and free games from time to time.

With MS wanting to charge you monthly $10-$15 to offset the cost of the hardware, in signing a contract, I think people will be up in arms
over that price, if they don't start getting with the program and offer better sales and freebies like PSN+ does. But by then,
what does MS care... you've already bought in and signed the contract.

I think Sony can really hurt MS by improving PSN+, for those that are on the fence. And you know they are going
to at least offer all the functionality that MS had with Xbox LIVE on 360, for their PS4.

Good thing about PSN+ is it works across platforms also, Vita, PS3 and PS4, so you get freebies across all 3.

Agreed very cool, unfortunately I truly could not care less about motion gaming. No amount of awesome camera technology will change my mind. I just dont want to play games that way

That it was really cool tech. That oooh the potential. It's all the same stuff people are saying about it now.

It's Kinect, but better. It's hard to understand why anyone would be interested in that given the previous results.

Kinect is only good as tech demo and thats that, ever since they released it and its been a LONG time now, not one single game has ever complemented it right. Every single review and gamer impressions has been bad from DBZ, SW, HP...etc. its just bad and too soon they wanted a piece of that motion gaming group and they failed badly at it plain simple.

Kinect 2.0 its yet to be seen since the whole interface stuff is just not impressive since its core function should be for games not some minority report interface HQ device lol

They never did in the last 2 years, what makes people think they'd start now? Because we can now read finger movements? As grift said. Its 2 years later and people are still talking about "potential" for core games.

Latency was a big issue along with accuracy, both have now been improved so who knows.

Kinect is front and center on the X1. Kinect is one of Microsoft's top priorities. Microsoft is pushing pretty hard.

Let's not pretend it's all the same shit. Their priorities are pretty clear. This #dealwithit bullshit doesn't really make any sense.

Internet has been so entertaining after the xbox one reveal. May be not so much for those who were expecting mindblowing things to what was shown. But otherwise it is fun. lol
