On the other hand, without fixing the d-pad on the 360 controller manually, it's pretty useless.
Don't tell me ANY of the "classics" on XBLA feel anything like they did when you used to play them - whever that may be - as a kid. It's the reason I haven't even bothered with the Sonic and Streets of Rage games off there.
But sure, "need" suggests that it can't be enjoyed at all otherwise and I won't make it out to be that big a deal for everyone. It is, however, an impossibility for me personally to get into the 8bit Megaman feel using the 360 pad with its rounded buttons in a diamond shape and its laughable idea of a d-pad, and considering that's the whole point of this production it would render it fairly pointless.
The irony is that if it were released as an NES cartridge, I would totally get it.
And here are some new pics of the Wii entry in the DS RPG series Rune Factory; Rune Factory Frontier. It describes itself as a fantasy version of Harvest Moon, so there's some combat and stuff in addition to planting potatoes.
The super promising World Destruction also deserves mentioning whenever there's new media. Written by Chrono Cross chap and scored by Xenogears man, launching alongside a six part anime to kick the story off. Apparently centers around six protagonists (if I understand this right) who all seek to destroy the world.
And here's Fatal Frame/Project Zero 4: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse in all its Simon-can't-ever-play-it-alone-or-he'll-wet-himself glory. Actually, I played 3 with a friend and I essentially wet myself anyway. :(
RPG thingy looks good, but what the hell is RP ?
Would have liked to see World Destruction on the Wii instead though :(

There's also a ton of media from the Tales of Symphonia sequel, but I think few people here has played the first one being as it was a gamecube game, and this follows immediately after. It looks really good though.

What's wrong with it?
Graphically it looks ok I guess, if it comes out before Vesperia I may consider getting it.

Well that's hardly cause for "terrible" in my book. I thought the gameplay was broken or something like that.
My friend Peter won't touch an RPG where the characters don't look exactly like he wants them to or if it doesn't say Square Enix on the box, and that's really weird to me aswell. Ever since I got into this jRPG thing I've felt decidedly alone in caring the most about the actual gameplay in them. :)
That said I honestly am not too thrilled about the monkeying about in many of Namco's stabs at the genre, so your comment had me mostly concerned that this in particular has gone a bit too ape.
I suppose if you haven't played the first one you might not see why bringing the characters back is just a bad idea.
If the sequel had been an extension of their story and not added new characters I might be a little more excited for it I suppose.
I need to see more TBH, god knows I need to buy a Wii game though.

I certainly do wanna play TOS though, so it's on my to-do list. Right now I'm playing Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, and I think I'm gonna play Persona 3 next so that when Persona 4 arrives in december I won't have only just finished 3. It gets to be a bit much - at least for me - to play many titles in the same series in a row.

Well, prowling on eBay, considering shelling out the asking price of 150 dollars for Nocturne made me appreciate the notion of just grabbing everything at once before they go rare. :D
Luckily, Atlus issued a reprint of Nocturne so I was able to get it at a reasonable price. I think they did the same recently with the just-as-rare first Digital Devil Saga.
It's ironic because I decided right away that I wouldn't become one of those FF zombies that never touch anything unless there are cutscenes that are indistinguishable from Square's, so I deliberately found out where all the FF games were, turned around 180 degrees and ran as fast and as far away as I could. Okay not too far away because I played LO first.. but anyway. After LO I played the first DDS and fell utterly and completely in love with everything about it. I immediately hurled myself at the nearest web browser and ordered the lot of the PS2 SMT games.
So basically I cunningly maneuvered around becoming a total FF slave and threw myself headfirst into complete SMT-whippedness. :D
But yeah, I've got a bunch of others now too, and I really appreciate being able to mix things up a bit. Tri Ace offerings especially are usually a refreshing and interesting departure from the traditional turn based affairs.
Not that the difficulty bothers me, I find them a bit too Emo and depressing in all honesty :P
I am kind of pissed that my PSP broke I was looking forward to Star Ocean 1, hopefully its just the battery that has died.

I don't find the combat too slow, but I can see how it'd rub someone the wrong way. It's sort of rigid and very paper scissors stone like which ultimately has a very "hypnotic" effect. Also, you can give commands before the last character's animation is done, so it's actually really swift when you get into it. I also appreciate how you can skip essentially all of the fight intros, outros and stats screens so that random encounters never become a chore even though they're very frequent.
But anyhow, I'm not avoiding FF by any means. I just took a definite stand that I wouldn't just be an FF only kind of RPG player. I wanna play all kinds of RPGs, just like I wanna play all kinds of games. I've bought VIII, X, X-2 and XII. Played pretty far in XII before I'd even gotten into RPGs proper but stopped because I was distracted from it and couldn't get back into it after.
Some new screens too. Looks great.
