Yea kind of like a hack and slash RPG, I find them quite boring and slow paced though, basically you are given a mission from a hub village and have to go out and complete it, go back get another... etc etc

It's all about killing monsters and equipment customisation.

I'm guessing the Wii version will be a meatier experience, hopefully online co-op will be there also.

Graphics are deffinately looking nice, I would have liked to see this series on PS3 and 360 though, maybe 4

I see Jolli. Gamekyo slides in on their bare knees with some info, probably derived from whence the pics came; Famitsu.

Online play (4 player groups)
- City provides an area for chatting, meeting up other players. For single-player, the city turns into a village with new facilities and access routes for the island over time.
- Kaname Fujioka (director) wants to restart Monster Hunter with news ideas - One reason why the game will be on the Wii
- Set on an unexplored island - forests, caves, deep underwater environments
- Complete swimming controls available in underwater environments
- Hunt submerged beasts, hunt fish (can be used as ingredients)
- Most weapons available on land can also be used in water
- Air gauge when you're underwater, stamina gauge when running on land
- Light torches in caves to see the surrounding area in caves
- Old and new monsters - old monsters will have a “freshness” quality as well
- Huge underwater dragon serves as main monster, can fight him while swimming or walking

Sounds just like PSO to me. Make it free aswell and I'll certainly give it a whirl!

Also, new scans of loads of DS rpgs have flooded the web, and I'm sure you guys have looked at most of them already but I wanna direct attention to these in particular

Suikoden Tierkreis. I think it looks FANTASTIC. Right up there with World Destruction.

I am such a sucker for these semi top down/isometric PSX era, sprite/3D styled RPGs and these two are really feeling me up in all the right, non-intrusive places.

We know that gaming enthusiasts absolutely love it when game developers announce DLC for their titles before said titles are released -- that's why we're sure you'll be pleased to hear that Mega Man's morally ambiguous predecessor, Proto Man, will be available to download as a playable character in all versions of Mega Man 9 for two American dollars (160, 200 Wii Points). His core controls will be similar to the Blue Bomber's, though he does come with a few extra abilities -- for instance, he'll be able to use his shield to deflect certain projectiles, perform a sliding manuever, and inspire heated comments about DLC price gouging on internet message boards. Neat, huh?

This why I hate this gen. That should be bonus for beating the game or something. I will get the game but not that rip off DLC. I mean come on 160 points? WTF the game is 800 so one extra dude is almost 1/4 of the full game. Next they will release all the other characters...

Phantasy Star Zero is starting to look kinda endearing!

Too bad the limited communication options will mess the social aspects of it up. Still, if it actually packs PSO's levels of content I can certainly think of worse things to force your DS wielding friends to buy for co-op fun.

Details and (enlarged and kinda roughed up yet delicious) screens of GTA: Chinatown Wars. I was sort of hoping that they'd do a GTA artwork themed GTA for Wii, but I suppose this is a safer route to begin on. At any rate, this could potentially be awesome, so I'm keeping my styluses crossed.

Sin & Punishment 2 (sequel to the CRIMINALLY overlooked N64 game) also struts its stuff on gamekyo.

I just hope that "new ideas" idea only consists of locations(underwater battle) and stuff like that. They better not touch the gameplay controls one bit. Don't you dare! The challenge is what makes it fun.

Yeah, it's taken so long to come out, the benefits of being a DS game (short dev cycle et all) have waned some. I'm sure the mandatory "next gen" version has been worked on simultaniously though. I'm not entirely sure DQ needs to be a 360/PS3 game considering its very traditional jRPG values and low tech visual style, but waiting yonks for a handheld version sort of takes the air out of it a bit.

Okay so Toshinden was a horrible game, absolutely and utterly pants, and it's coming back, and I can't help but smile.

Think is, I have fond memories of it regardless. It was plasticky, plain sticky, and had the worst fighting engine since Rise of The Robots.. but the music was fucking ACE and the polygons were all.. transparent and.. that lass was actually kinda hot compared to triangular pyramid tit Sarah Bryant.

It's getting a revival on the Wii, and it can't possibly play worse than it did (with some kind of symphonic climax of unplayability with the through and through disgustingly awful Toshinden URA for Saturn) and if the music rides the train even halfway to Awesomenessville where the first soundtracks resided, it'll be worth it just for that.

Horray for low bars and gratis nostalgia points!

Oh and also horray for Gamekyo, their consistently excellent coverage of obscure titles, and their hawkeyed japanese scan-spotting people.

Alright so Sonic and The Black Knight is starting to look nice. I have faith in you, Secret Rings team!

If I'm allowed to speculate, you probably upgrade Excalibur the way you upgraded and applied skills to your "ring" in Secret Rings. It'll prolly not impact the game as much as previously thought. In Secret Rings you had special moves like tackles and pounces where Sonic was surrounded briefly by fire. In this one you prolly have those kinds of things only in this case he uses the sword instead.

So I finally bought myself a DS. Professor Layton and Advance Wars DS are my first games. What a cool device indeed. This will be the platform I'll spend the most time with during the next six months (because I won't be much at home), so I hopeall these praised game like Hotel Dusk are as good as they say.

Hotel Dusk is pretty special and it really comes down to whether you can stand the slow pace of it. I completely and utterly LOVE the Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney games though, and I can't recommend them enough. Start at the beginning though, the first one called simply Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

Hotel Dusk is just a random title I typed in, as I'm really looking forward to playing maaany games - NSMB, Phantom Hourglass, Elite Beat Agents, The World Ends With You, Soul Bubbles and many others. Pheonix Wright, too. The DS purchase will diverse my gaming library a bit after playing mostly on PC and 360 these past two years.

Don't get me wrong, I was simply giving you a heads up on Hotel Dusk if you're really hyped for it. I liked Hotel Dusk a lot, but it is shockingly slow, much more so than Phoenix Wright, which I would at least partially liken it to. Even then it's a very special game though so it's something you'll feel richer for having played.

The DS is brilliant and it's got tons of brill games, so you're gonna have a great time. Grats on the buy. :)

I've had a hard time finding Soul Bubbles at a reasonable price.
It's not in any brick stores around here and it's totally inflated on Amazon (last I checked).
Maybe I'll break down and buy it used.

I wonder if it's still being printed even.
