It doesn't really trailer well, but the first one is so unique and really good, I'm really looking forward to this.

that really does look good.

it's coming out on ps2 isnt it? if so i think i'll go for that version, i'd much rather have a more standardised controls scheme, although i will miss the flashlight control...but i certainly wont miss the clunky turning and erratic and unresponsive camera movement.

I dunno man, it's almost like a point and click adventure with the interactions. I think that's part of what makes it look so interesting and has the pacing making sense. Be sure to check out the other two parts aswell.

But yeah, last I heard it's being ported to PS2 aswell.

yeah, checked them all, the running away bit looked really intense.

those interactive bits are what make the wii version look good, but no amount of that sort of stuff can make up for unresponsive camera movement and controls. i just hate having to move my curser across the whole screen just to turn in a direction. if it worked like a mouse i'd be fine with it, bit it's like lost planet...a pointless invisibly bounding box around the reticle.

i dunno, i'll probably rent it either way so i could just check the PS2 version if the wii version annoys me too much.

I'm a huge fan of the series and maybe that's why i'm not exactly finding this to be very silent hill-ish. The weird dream-like feeling from teh first game is just totally gone, not there anymore. I watched until he met Sybil and that was all i could take. Maybe it would be alright if it weren't a remake of a loved old game but as per usual, it just feels like they totally misunderstood the whole thing.

I think it looks like an awesome horror adventure game that looks very, very interesting as a game. I play games, that's what I do, I don't really care if it feels identical to what has come before. In fact, I embrace when Silent Hill gives me another sensation and doesn't dwell on the same imagery over and over.

I really refuse to become this grumpy, cynical guy who dismisses everything that doesn't seem familiar. I honestly think this is one of the coolest things I've seen from E3 so far, so I'm stoked.

The fact that it is supposed to be a remake of Silent Hill makes me expect certain things and those things seem to be thrown out the window. If it were called Mr. Flashlight's spooky adventure i would probably be more forgiving :P

yeah, it's got that resident evil 4/5 vibe going on, where it's solid enough as a game, but as a part of an established franchise? not so much. but as i said, i'll be renting it either way, i do wish it was sticking to the source material a little better tho.

They don't want to call it a remake, they refer to it as re-imagining and use Cronenberg's The Fly as an example of what they're doing with this. It follows the story of Silent Hill but it adapts to this "psych profile" of you to tailor the experience and certain elements to *your past* so to speak. It's just so much more, even though at its heart it's set up like Silent Hill 1.

At no point do they actually refer to it as Silent Hill 1 either, so when the product is on shelves there's really no need to be protective of "an original". At that point it's a new game that either looks cool or doesn't. I think it looks super interesting personally, and I'm probably sensitive and easily depressed by people dismissing it. I mean it's already gonna get jacked up the bottom just by being a Wii game - which is actually integral to making it look so interesting to me with the point and click interface and adventure game like interactions with puzzles.

I know Brad Shoemaker at Giant Bomb got it demoed to him a while back and was super excited too so I guess it's me and him, if nobody else. :P

Oh and my partner in crime over at M7, Dominic, was really impressed too. Thanks to him for even bringing these videos to my attention.

At least Resident Evil 4 wasn't a remake, it was the progression of the series. If this was all new, and not based on the first game, i probably wouldn't react in the same. But it is a remake of the original, one that blatantly disregards the qualities of the first game and just does it's own thing. Though for me the Silent Hill series officially died with The Room as that was the last game made by at least parts of the original team. The studio making this has just proved over and again that they just don't understand what made Silent Hill good, and i doubt that this game, how ever good it might be in other respects, will change that.

It might be a good game but it seems to severely fail at being Silent Hill. That's all i'm saying.

As a comment on the series in general though, I too am a big fan of the series. I think I've expressed as much before. The thing that made me a fan in the first place however was closely tied to the games' ability to reinvent themselves and not adhere at all to what had gone before. That in itself made the next entry terrifying and interesting because you didn't know what to expect.

When the movie came out I was really pleased with how they nailed the imagery but I complained about Pyramid Head being in it because his inclusion in Silent Hill 2 was very deliberate, and in the movie he just appeared as fanservice. Fairly well handled fanservice, but fancervice nontheless.

Now I realise that even the imagery is fanservice. At this point there's a rigid belief of what Silent Hill looks and sounds like and people crave that out of every entry WHILE complaining about how the newer stuff is just re-using familiar elements. It's gotten to a point where the new games can't reinvent themselves at all.

The only thing I really, really crave with Silent Hill and want intact is its vagueness and disregard of the concepts of good and evil as polar opposites. I want an uncompromising, disturbing storyline that doesn't pad my fall at the end, but that's really it. Beyond that, as long as you don't just stick a conventional, predictable story in there, do what you think would be awesome with it and I will keep coming back to the series.

For me the series is officially dead and i'm prone to call anything with the name Silent Hill on it shit, no matter what. Not calling this game Silent Hill would have me interested, but i've gone over that already :)

Speaking of 2D platformers.. you can never have enough Muramasa screenshots to drool over. God.... dammit.. this is easily one of the most beautiful games my tiny gamer eyes have been directed towards.

Some details on Shattered Memories from IGN, and here are all parts of the demonstration I linked to above:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

I completely forgot about the camera phone mechanics when I talked about it before. Metroid Prime/Project Zero awesomeness. And classic Silent Hill static through the wiimote when enemies are nearby. :D

I'm kind of intrigued. Both disgusted and fascinated at the same time. If they could just change the names a little my every beef with the game would be gone. Too bad i don't have a wii, if i did i would pick this up, even if i am upset about it raping the corpse of a loved old game ;)
