GSY Video PC

Another walking simulator got released this week but The Fabled Woods is much shorter than Paradise Lost so quite logically less ambitious in terms of story. We completed the game in a bit more than 90 minutes and it was a pleasant ride overall, but the story felt way too rushed to us and we wouldn't have minded if we could have had more in that respect. The visuals look pretty good and it's great to see such an indie project featuring Ray Tracing and DLSS. The dev team undeniably put a lot of efforts in creating those woods, but some areas are a recycled in the last part of the adventure, which is a bit of a shame. At the end of the day, for €/$14.44 on Steam (including discount), we expected a bit more in terms of length and originality. It's also worth noting that we lost a bit of time while trying to figure out what we were supposed to do in the very beginning, when we were told to use a sort of special vision to find clues. That ability doesn't stay on for very long, making it a tad cumbersome to use as it requires to be activated over and over again until you find what you're looking for. Moreover, it is not made very clear that some things only appear when using this special vision and that those are usually the required clues to unlock the next path. Paradoxically, it's really the first time we were introduced to the mechanic that it was a real problem, but it should be the opposite. Check out our gameplay video if you're still unsure as to whether or not you want to purchase the game, but be aware that it shows the first third of the whole experience.

The Fabled Woods will be out next week on March 25 and a demo is already available on Steam for those who are curious to give the brand new walking simulator a try. From what we know, the story should be rather dark (and short) so we hope the game will manage to reach the same kind of heights as its models, namely Gone Home and Firewatch.
