GSY Video Xbox One

Let's keep going with our tour of the Xbox One launch lineup with this time Need For Speed Rivals. Certainly not a bad looking game, but a racing game not able to keep at least 30 fps at all times seems very wrong to me.
Note: Once again, keep in mind that the sound problems you can hear are due to our capture equipment, not the game.

thanks for the videos, but honestly I find that NFS rivals not smooth enough to appreciate it...too much judder/stutter/slowdown for a 30fps game...disappointing...and limiting the game at 30fps on PC is a disgrace...

PC limited to 30fps? Well fuck me sideways, that must mean the PC can't handle it, or it's under powered, right? PC and Xbone is the sux.

I got NFSR on PC and 30fps does not effect the gameplay at all it plays great and the graphic`s are Brilliant. I think if the fps was any higher it could become very unplayable, controls would be very snappy at corner`s and going around other vehical`s due to being to quick.

Gsyde doesn't have PS4 footage up yet, but i can clearly spot jaggies in even this game. It is 1080p, but it does have jaggies. Jaggies are not a resolution matter clearly. Hell even Forza 5, as beautiful as it is, has jaggies. BF4 has them, AC4 has them too. It is not the end of the world...but jesus....jaggies really made their entrance on PS2...continued on some games on PS360 and even in the freaking next-gen we have it now. Or well, especially X1 so far.

LOL no they limited the PC version for commercial reasons, they make more money on console versions (higher price of console games, less piracy, and higher sales from racing arcade fans) they dont want to give the PC version any advantage over the next gen console versions or else many gamers and fans of NFS would just buy the cheaper PC version and more importantly their console sales where there is more money would be negatively affected.

It is the same reason why they limit Fifa games on PC...or why they release GTAs at least 6 months later on PC...

Makes sense, but still...there are countless console gamers who wouldn't move on to PC gaming. So there would still be enough money to be made for the big companies.

It actually seems to be inherently built into the game's design. Which is an oddball thing for them to do on the frostbite engine. Terrible port regardless.

I wouldn't buy the game because it's 30 fps period, personally.

This doesn't actually happen very often at all. And you're right. Those people who would play on consoles regardless of the difference probably wouldn't be aware of it anyway.

I'm not sure this line of thinking actually has a big impact on sales.

But this really means that the PC is holding the power of the super computer known as the PS4 back, right? Has to be. PC is gimping that console.

If frame rate will be unlocked may be I will buy that game. But 30FPS... it's like... only half of picture for normal gaming!

Actually its not about console gamers moving to PC, but the OPPOSIT, they want PC gamers to move to consoles. they want PC gamers who love GTAs to buy an xbox360/PS3 and an original copy of the game at 70 euros. same for Fifa, if you love fifa you have to buy an authentic console copy at 70 euros...etc

in other words, developers and publishers make generally more money on consoles. for big budget games they literally release only the console version, holding back the PC version many months (sometimes a year or 2 like the new engine of Fifa 2006) until they make a maximum of profits from the console versions. some other developers just hold back the framerate, or graphical fidelity so not to give the PC version a huge advantage, some others dont care and release simultaneously on PC/consoles...etc many strategies to maximize profits, it is legitimate, just business nothing personal aainst pc gamers lol

That's... hardly even true anymore. The vast majority of multiplatform games are same day release on PC these days.. and despite the bitching we may do about the quality of the ports, they're mostly much better than they have been in past generations. It's easier than ever to just play multiplatform games on PC.

@Blim: There will be a Patch that fixes the Framerate on Consoles. At least thats what the Developers said to Eurogamer, since its a Bug in the Frostbyte Engine and not really a performance Issue.

thats a fact not a theory lol, try convince rockstar to release GTA5 the same day on PC, or try convicne EA to release the same new Fifa 2014 console engine on PC...

Okay, let me try and bestow some knowledge (not conjecture) and squash speculation;

1. PC games have WAY HIGHER profit margins than consoles. There's no one to pay licensing fees to, so publishers (note I said "publishers", not "developers") make WAY MORE on every PC title sold.

2. PC titles sell WAY LESS than their console counterparts. Whether it be piracy, entitlement, dislike of the genre, hate for some lack of feature, etc. Time and time again, I've seen a 10:1 console to PC sale ratio on my own games and I'm sure others get that, too.

There are of course games that sell better on PC, but even those sell low numbers, by most large publisher's standards.

3. I don't know why this game is capped at 30fps. Seems silly to me, but I doubt it's anything nefarious. Often developers start out doing something, for their "lead SKU". This lead SKU or platform often isn't the most-powerful but the one with the highest sell-in probability (the one with the most units out there). This is often called "lowest common denominator (LCD)".

A lot of time, when making a game for this LCD, unfortunately the other platforms suffer by not being pushed to their limits. THis comes down to time, budget and return on investment (see point #2).

I have no idea why NFS is capped at 30fps and it makes me a bit sad. But, if the game plays solidly at the shipped framerate and is fun, I have no problems supporting hard working developers, because in the end if you don't support the developers, the only one that gets hurt is the developers, not the publishers. They lay off thousands of people and move on. The developers struggle and end up going hungry.

I'm sure there'll be a patch to unlock the framerate and you can see whatever the game has to offer unfettered... bugs and all.

lol GTA5 and Fifa2014 arent exceptions, they are just the most known examples due to highest sales. Most publishers limit their PC releases to assure more profit on consoles (be it a poor PC port, a delay of the PC release, a cap on framerate/resolution...etc it is really common practice)

I mean look at the open world crysis VS the corridor games crysis2/crysis3, cerli founder of crytek admitted that it has been done so the console versions could run well....

personally I am always more excited about exclusive games (for pc or consoles), I disliked the move to multiplatform, but business is business...
