Warner Bros. released two images of Batman: Arkham City. It's not much but given how great they look we won't complain. The game will ship on October 18 in North America and October 20 in Europe.

So much going on in the first pic. Van Damme on the right, prisoner with riot shield on the left, and a cop throwing a box?

I'm so psyched for this game. But i do have my reservations. Namely the open world. Has it been at the expense of enclosed, mult level, metroidvania-ish progress? Is stealth still in there in a big way? Not seen any stealth gameplay yet. Just a lot of full on combat and flying around. I hope we still have plenty of opertunities to toy with our pray before hanging them off a conveniently placed indoor gargoyle..lol.

Still. It's looking awesome. Best use of the UE3 engine by a mile. But then so was the first game.

Looks better then gears to me. Just far more impressive looking. Gears looks too flat. Always has done imo. But this isnt about gears, so lets not go down this often travelled road shall we. The tarmacs wearing thin.

I see, I completly disagree though, Gears 3 will be the better use of UE3 by far to this day.

The Beta was and it was only a Beta.

It looks more the 'pretty good'

'Pretty good' would describe bulletstorm, Not batman.

I'm going to agree with KORNdog here. I wouldn't say it's a better use of the engine, but on par for different reasons. The two things they both have in common is the outstanding art direction, which are both very distinctive from one another, but clearly on par with the use of the engine itself. I just recently completed AA on the PC, and it looks stunning on that platform. The visual style just works so well to the point where the usual UE traits are unapparent. Clearly the artist for both games had a great time working on them.

The first Batman game was bloody gorgeous and that was a lesser advanced Unreal engine. Gears3 will look bloody good with all the new additions and i imagine Batman will also shine from this. The first Gears though is still a real looker i think and Gears2 of course

I kind of agree with this...but in many ways Hawken on the PC looks more impressive, considering its on vastly more powerful hardware....art is impressive and it is peddling far more geometry. Still gears 3 is the full package

People have to remember this game is also hitting PC...I played the first on PS3, but the game on PC should be a pretty big step up

I also agree with KornDog, seems like the developer has put a lot of resources on improving the graphics and the art style. The first game looked like ass (even on the PC) but this looks great. This gameplay footage sold me the game:

The PC version with DX11 should be spectacular! And yea most recent UE3 games look fantastic (Red orchestra 2, Hawken, Gears 3, Batman)

Arkham Asylum looks amazing on PC. textures are so much better... This looks alot like it to me and added DX11 effects will make it even better. I'd actually agree that Arkham Asylum and City are the best looking UE3 games, but only when looking at the PC versions. Otherwise, I don't think Epic would make a game without using their engine to the fullest. It is just physx + hires textures + DX11 > any sort of modification they can make to UE3 on current consoles. Hope they announce a UE4 game for PC soon, so we can see something truly eye poppin.

yepp, but imo it's unfair, of course a good looking PC game looks much better than any console game (not only Unreal Engine 3)

restricted to consoles, Gears 3 will be this year's most impressive looking game i think, haven't seen any better yet (Rage and Uncharted 3 come pretty close however)

Gears 3 looks great for sure, but Uncharted 3 and Rage is definitely going to be amazing looking too, especially Rage considering it is running 60 fps on consoles and still looks fantastic, not many or any game can pull that off.

You put far too much emphesis on 60fps. Especially when the textures arnt great, environmental physics are practically non existent and the gameplay is as slow as it is. How does the game running in 60fps benefit RAGE at all?

I'd personally rather sacrifice the 60 fps, lock it at 30, and have environmental interaction and physics with better geometry and texture detail. But that's just me. Clearly 60fps is important to you for whatever reason. I guess it's to keep up with that blisteringly fast FPS gameplay..lol

Gears 3 uses a special type of motion blur that gives it a very smooth feel (better than 30 FPS feel). The game just amazing to me, way better than Rage or Uncharted 3

But that isnt graphics. It's performance. RAGE cant rape the competitions graphics when all it has to show is a high framerate. Just sayin'...
