Alpha backers of the roguelike space shooter from Rockfish Games can update their build on Steam starting today to dive into the first closed beta of Everspace. It brings two new sectors filled with new asteroids, improved space clouds, new gorgeous sun flares, ocean planets and a new swarm type of enemy. Newcomers who want to participate in the beta can do so by heading to the developer's shop here before July 31.

Essentially Steam's Early Access, only timed. What a time to live in.

Yeah it's exactly this, well in all fairness devs have to eat too, especially if they don't have publishers funding them and are self funded/indie. Also you sort of have do this sort of thing if you went through the KS process or else your backers will get really pissed off if you open it to everyone. It's not a good idea to burn those bridges.

I backed them on KS, but I get why those that didn't back them would be upset if you go back to the days when demos where common place(those that remember). Now I suppose everything comes at a price, which sucks but I get why its this way. This is why there is Steam early access for better or worse.

It may suck for the customer initially but it really does help out these sorts of companies doing their own thing, which ultimately should favor the customer in the end.

Like you said "what a time to live in" :) things sure have changed over the years, I still remember playing Diablo 1 shareware, things sure are a lot different now.

MrWhite Imagine scrambling to reload the gun, dropping the ammo on the ground, and picking up a brick instead and bashing a combine troop with it, saving your bacon. (6 Hours ago)

MrWhite @Melmoth: Well, then, if that gameplay is indicative of what its like overall, and if the AI can react to you touching things, thus making noise or becoming visible, then its going to be revolutionary (6 Hours ago)

Melmoth @MrWhite: they say it's a full length game like HL2 of about 13-15 hours long. And making it VR only they can take proper advantage of having hands. Hope there's many nice gameplay innovations . (6 Hours ago)

MrWhite The only thing I'm sort of surprised about is the lack of full body presence. Boneworks has it, and it looks like it's sharing the same kind of mechanics engine too. (6 Hours ago)

MrWhite @Melmoth: Looks amazing. HL2 is still the best single player FPS in existence. Experiencing that world in VR will be incredible. (6 Hours ago)
