Today, Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XVI for PlayStation 5 will be released globally summer 2023. Alongside this announcement, the latest trailer for the game, entitled “Dominance”, as well as environmental screenshots have been released.
Final Fantasy 16 is looks gorgeous and the combat gives a Devil May Cry in Medieval Fantasy times vibe that I'm really loving. Soken from Final Fantasy 14 is doing the music and it's already epic. This has the potential to be the best Final Fantasy from the "Xs" mainline - FFX-XVI.
God damn...this looks incredible! Also, probably one of the biggest graphical upgrades I've seen. This is probably the most impressive looking current gen game I've seen all things considered. Scale is great, geometry is great, character models are great, and effects are insane...I am happy even with the 2023 release date. Something this huge and spectacular is going to need a lot of polish!
A big upgrade visually from the last trailer. Surprising that we're still a year away from release, I was almost certain this would be a late 2022 release.
The UI looks like it needs improving though. Also, is this a single character game? No parties?
Yoshida said that the game is already ready as in you can play it from start to finish, however, there's a lot of things to polish, so they decided to release it next year.
Which is great, as it means that they will spend 1 year or more just polishing the game, meaning less bugs, better graphics and more performance, all of which I'm more than okay with.
I hate when games come out full of bugs and performance issues just to hit the Holidays or a fiscal year date. Yoshida is one of the best developers of all time, seriously, he knows that Final Fantasy 15 launched in a bad state and wants to avoid that.
Alongside Final Fantasy 7 Remake, I really hope these games get the franchise back to the heights of the older titles, just like Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 7 got the RE franchise back on its tracks after that atrocity that was RE6. Hoping the same for Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

Now, maybe we can have a decent story on a FF game after 20 years of eating jank.
