Video PC Xbox 360 PS3

The demo of Kane & Lynch: Dog Days is available as of today exclusively on Xbox Live, provided you were sent a precious code to download it. There is some very interesting content as you can try a bit of the campaign mode, a mission of the Arcade mode and you can even get your hands on three of the multiplayer modes (Fragile Alliance, Undercover Cop and Cops & Robbers). Generous as we are, we would not want you to miss the opportunity to see the game in action so here are a few videos of this exclusive demo. We'll start with the introduction movie and the first part of the demo section of the single player mode played in the hardest difficulty setting. Enjoy!
Update: Second part added.

Kane & Lynch: Dog Days' visuals may not have been impressive when looking at screenshots, but it definitely is when you see it moving. The game has this creepy realistic look to it that is even disturbing sometimes. Don't look for Crytek-like extra-HD textures everywhere as you won't find much of them but, despite that, I find the way Io Interactive nailed the surveillance camera look quite stunning. Not only is it unique but it also adds a lot to the immersion, making this sequel even more atmospheric, which was the previous episode's main strength.

Gameplay-wise, this demo should reassure those who found the cover system of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men horrible. It is now fully functional and the aiming also feels a bit smoother and more precise than before. Moving around is then much more pleasant, whether you're running down an alley or sliding from cover to cover. Not everything is perfect though, the AI seems rather weak for now, the animations of the NPCs still look a bit dated, and there are also a few framerate issues that are all the more noticeable as the game runs very smoothly the rest of the time. That being said, let's keep in mind that it is only a demo version and that the developers still have a lot of time to fix most of these issues before the game ships in late August.

I have to say, Impressive Camera work! (loving the shaky hand camera thing) but I fear it will make me dizzy after a while!

I always felt that the first game was potential wasted, and it seems as though the sequel is fulfilling that very potential.

The game seems to run at 60 fps from what I can tell, but as I said, there are a few frame drops from time to time.

From a pure style and presentation level (not technical) I agree it is one of the best. The game looks like nothing more than dog shit when in screens, which is an even further testament to the visual effects being used.

Going to DL the demo now, hope it plays as good as what I have heard.

Would have been cooler if they ran the game at 29.97FPS.

Amateur movies are mainly shoot with a too high framerate, so it just fits perfect to the style of the game.

A big high five to the art director and the Io Interactive devs. This game looks like no other. Hopefully they iron out some of the gameplay kinks before release. I had no interest in the first K&L but this one is very high on my games to buy radar.

...what? There are very, very few consumer level cameras that shoot more than 30fps - especially at HD resolutions - and the ones that exist are very, very expensive.

Ever watched one of this old ultra cheap TV productions (soap operas etc.)? This is where it happens the most.

Oh and I wasn't mentioning that the amateurs had HD cameras.

  • KORNdog

KORNdog What WOULD shock me is of Sony turns around and announces day 1 releases of exclusives on PC moving forward. That wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to me. (3 Hours ago)

  • KORNdog

KORNdog Releasing on PC at that point allows them to make more money while not cannibalising sales on their platform. (3 Hours ago)

  • KORNdog

KORNdog By the time horizon hits PC it'll be 3 years old. It's bargain bin price on PS4 and it's used game circulation means it's effectively a dead title for Sony and their earnings. (3 Hours ago)

  • KORNdog

KORNdog @Sdarts: I imagine Sony's plan is release old games on PC at full retail to make money on titles that no longer drive sales or make them much money. (3 Hours ago)

Seth @Sdarts: flying with stormbird mod in Horizon! This is something Guerrilla wanted to have in the game, but it was cut due to limitations of ps4 hardware. (2 Days ago)
