Video Xbox 360 PS3

SNK Playmore released King of Fighters XII in Europe a couple of days ago and we just got a copy of it. The game was supposed to be the series big comeback, but the game is lacking on many areas. There are very few modes and though I have yet to try it myself, the online mode is apparently a bit broken. Enjoy this gameplay video, though I'm not the best fighter out there.

Don't really see how there could possibly be a "lack of modes"? There's VS, right? There's training no doubt? What more would you want?

A survival mode would be nice?

For me personally only VS (i include online support in this) and training are important, that's where the game is at. Why would you want to play a VS fighter against the CPU? I mean, if you want to beat guys up in a single player style game, surely action games like Ninja Gaiden, DMC and God of War must be more fun`?

The game looks and feels great (tried the demo). It doesn't matter much to me that it's rather small content-wise (just get it used for €30 a few weeks after release) but with a broken online mode, the game would be a waste of money for me. My friends would never touch an arcade-style fighting game, and of course beating the CPU gets boring fast, so all that's left for me is the online mode.

Small roster, lack of modes in the home port, etc. KOFXII is a rough release. I haven't purchased it yet either, but I expect to enjoy it despite its flaws.

Since this was a reboot, from scratch, I expect the next game to be more full featured.

I imported this when it was released in the US and sold it couple of days later. This game has nothing to do with the former KOF games. Back in the days when the neo geo was a top notch console, the quality of snk games was really good. But this one is just bad.
The online lags as hell and you will try hard to find someone with a good connection. And with lag I mean a total slowdown of the game, not just minor problems like some input lags. In MP the whole game runs at quarter the speed of the SP.
And the SP on the other side is so lacking on content. Campaign mode is a 5 match time trial. Thats it. No boss, no story. This isn`t worth to be called KOF on my opinion.

When they at least would give the users a patch for the online issues. But after waiting one month the xbox user are still out of luck.
Btw the PS3 version has been patched, never tried it though.
I think if they would have spend half a year more for development, this had the chance to become a decent fighter, but atm it feels like a first try demo.

I stopped caring after I found out what a sausagefest the roster was. The girliest character is a guy pretty much

Ha ha very true unfortunately, a KOF game without the ladies is simply lame and also to be honest the sprites are a disappointment for as well on closer inspection. They should be as sharp as anime drawings zoomed in or out after more than a dozen years of blocky sprites and I don't buy any argument about technical limitations in this day and age. Are we now expected to deal with slightly rough looking sprites for another 15 years? They should have tried much harder on this one IMO.

I wish it was only a bit broken, the online is VERY broken.

Grift: yeah i a small roster is a sucky thing, you'd want to see all your favorite KoF characters return, especially as the games usually feature a huge roster. I just don't understand why the lack of single player modes would bother anyone. I mean, i don't want to be a dick or anything i just quite honestly don't understand why anyone would miss a mode like survival or a story mode. It seems to me that if you are in to that stuff you've picked the wrong genre :P

The game looks great but i'm a bit wary as well..i think i'll probably pick up Blaz Blue before this, and priority-wise i have to say that KoF just keeps dropping. Especially if the online is borked.

BB's netcode is the best one yet in a fighting game.

Took a look a the video. Looks great.

Yeah, Like some of you said, they should of held off if there was the possibility of improving the online aspect of the game. I think its a big selling point of VS fighting games since the latest consoles came out. Far as the modes they should have all the standard ones for a fighter. Yknow training, arcade, survival, team, story. I know king of fighters is allways a team thing so perhaps the option for variation of the teams, anything from 1 on 1 to 3 on 3. The variations should work be across the board and be an option in the all game modes. Except probably story, because of the practicalities of telling one characters story. Could have objective based training too. Where by you have to complete a set number of combos or character specific moves. Like in SFEX or GGAC plus. They should keep the gameplay moving too, cos the competition is. Blazeblue has a butt load of system and sub systems at work. If SNK look at these things that should help a bit.
