Square Enix has released the full PS4 Pro demo of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration which shows some new footage besides the two previous videos the publisher shared. As a bonus new artwork of the game from artist Andy Park.
God she's got such a derp face in this game. I mean just look at that video thumbnail. The character designer really messed up. Whole game I was just thinking how goofy her face looked.
Anyway, this "demo" just made it more obvious it's hard to sell ps4 pro. They should simulate the res difference somehow. And if it's upscaled 4k, the text in the beginning of the video is clearly false advertising.

4k is just upscaled remember 7th gen ps3 and 360 used to have 1080p upscaled originally 720p or lower so ps4 pro games will have all 1080p compare to normal ps4
developers wont have any lame excuses especially D.I.C.E. And UPISOFT by not making games higher res better fps
Its not 1080p upscaled to 4k. It seems most games on the pro are upscaled with this checkerboard technique from around 1800p not 1080p. So even though its not native 4k it still looks really good. But personally im way more interested in the 1080p with max graphics at 30fps mode.

this. if i even get a pro i'd be using it for it's 1080p benefits, not the 4k. although it seems a lot of games will simply super sample. which will help IQ a lot, but it's not a huge difference.
Maybe it's because i'm of the pc master race, but why would you ever choose slightly better image quality over 60 fps? The FPS count is going to impact your experience with the game infinitely more than a slight jump in graphics quality. If there was ever any reason for me to get a PS4 Pro it'd be to play the ordinary PS4 games at proper framerate :P

console isn't powerful enough to run the high end AAA games at 60fps. it's why tomb raider has these 3 modes:
-bells and whistles @ a locked 30fps
-regular PS4 visuals @40-60fps
-regular PS4 visuals @4k 30fps
so out of those i choose the most consistent. i find fluctuations between framerates (which for instance effects responsiveness of controls randomly mid fight) way more jarring then a locked 30fps, which may have lower responsiveness overall, but you get used to it anyway and there are no surprises when the frames suddenly drop by 20 frames.

Pro is rendering higher than 1080p though?
What resolution is it being rendered at, regardless he could take that resolution the Pro is rendering it at and use DSR to up it to 4K much like the Pro is. I just assumed they were doing 1080P and 4X4 to upscale it to 4K for ROTTR.
It seems impossible given the PS4 Pro hardware they are rendering at 4K and maintaining solid 30 FPS without reducing many of the other eye candy rendering techniques.
I still would be interested if somebody has a 1070 or 1080 to render at 1080P and DSR up to 4K and compare it to native 4K on the same card and then comment on frame rate and visual quality. I'm sure if I use google I could find about 100 examples though. :P

in the specific case of tomb raider, it's native rendering resolution is 1800p (AndreasZ94 said the same above) it then uses a 4x4 checkerboard to up-res to 4k

Interesting choice, I thought majority of developers were doing 1080P and using simple 4X4 for 4K since its a perfect ratio.
That's not really going to improve image quality though, outside of fancy post stuff, which you don't really need the extra GPU power for. I bet a bunch of pro-mode software renders above 1080p.

Good to know all you kids won't be buying one...(or at least least everyone know you bought one after talking crap) that just means more systems free for me to buy. I'm buying one because I've been holding out...You guys act like you're hurting sony by not buying one. Trust me their marketing teams have already figured the usual's like yourselves into the equation. They've stated time and time again who the system is for.

sure it is, they should understand i will never buy it then because of that.
cost come down, shit decisions are done.
Most importantly the hardware in the xbone is cheap compared to the PS4 with DDR3 memory and a weak GPU that's why they could have afforded to add the gimmick of a 4k bluray player and keep the price the same.
Why should Sony isolate 40 million PS4 owners who don't have 4K bluray players and put one that will not be utilised for games.
I personally think they did the right thing and kept the price at $399 and spent their budget on what matters most in a console, the GPU.
The PS4 Pro is a fantastic machine and will certainly be the go to console for VR gaming in time to come.

Especially when they relaunch their new super console, and it can't even run old titles at decent framerates WITHOUT any real upgrades.
UC4 is more beautiful than TR10 imo
My PC spec is GTX1070, so I don't think pro can surpass this IQ

Would be interesting to see what is better performance on the GTX1070 DSR to 4K or native rendering at 4K.

1080p are for other modes, depending on developers.

PS4 pro here I come, already sold my PS4, while it was still worth something. :)
I am now very tempted to buy a 4k TV, but I want to get a good one, I'll use my 1080p Samsung in the mean time.
The only thing Sony messed up on is not including a 4k Bluray player, but it's understandable from a cost perspective.
