Since its reveal at the Gamescom event in 2013, nothing was shown for the PS4 digital title Shadow of the Beast. The reboot from Heavy Spectrum gets its first screenshots today which show Aarbron in the brutal Karamoon's desert. The action-platformer has no release date yet.

I hope the devs know that music is important in this game, I hope they hire a good composer like David Whittaker, no Hollywood composer please.

it looks really weird. i mean, sure, it looks like the main character. but that doesnt make it shadow of the beast. definately need to see this in motion. is it even a side scroller or is it more like GOW?

Id on't think it looks like the main character much tbh.

And seriously, what's the point of reviving this? People don't even know what Shadow of the Beast is anymore, and the people who do know will just be disappointed because it's nothing like the original.

The original was beautiful and had wonderful music (also the dying sequence in the sequel had one the best music I ever heard on Amiga, them samples) but gameplay wise the series was totally awful.

PS: when I got the Mega CD Version of part 2 I was so happy, but they totally destroyed that ending music :(

Update: didn't part one run in HAM-Mode on Amiga? Looked so amazing on that 1084 monitor :)

Update 2: did you check the TurboGrafx/Duo (PC-Engine) version on CD? They really updated that soundtrack nicely...

tbh the sequels wern't much like the original either. especially the third. but i think that's the point of a reboot, no? to introduce old shit to new people? a remake might be pretty pointless, i'd agree, but a reboot like this seems to be, it wont matter if it's an old brand or not. if it's good, it's good.

I hope it's more Strider 2014 than God of War, but from the pix it's not looking so much. Maybe they got "Shadow of the Beast" mixed up with "Golden Axe Beast Rider"?

The original wasn't a great game, but it was fun. Like Altered Beast on fast-forward. It was also incredibly COLOURFUL! Something sorely lacking in these shots! And yes, the music in the original was awesome!

Although I can appreciate the tone here, the original game had a lot of color which is partly what made it look so great on the Amiga2000. The gameplay was extremely unforgiving and really wasn't all that great, but it is still legendary in my mind and I remember playing it on the Amiga like it was yesterday, along with Dragon's Lair and Baal.

Didn't even know there was a PCE-version of this. Just listened to the PCE-Soundtrack a bit. Not quite the melodies i remember. Sounds awkward and out of the place plus instruments have much less of a punch. Weird

I watched some gameplay videos of the original Shadow of the Beast (didn't know it until I saw the conversations above), and I still don't understand why you guys are not satisfied with this new one.
BTW, the background music of the original game is really weird…

Shadow of the beast has a kickass soundtrack. Classic amiga style. Sampledriven goodness.

The reason i rhink this is kinda stupid is that it doesnt look like shadow of the beast much at all. Not sure if its love for the original or just a try to get some cheap hype from an old, dead IP but in the end thars what shadow of the beast is. Old and dead. To me this looks like Golden axe: beast rider or something. Barely recognizeable as shadow of the beast, but for some reason still has the name slapped on there.

Too much yellow for my taste and like Megido said it's barely recognizable. If it was more true to it's roots (i.e. 2.5D, which it seems to be not, looks more like a GoW approach), had more attention to detail, colors and background diversity like let's say Giana Sisters / Strider / Monkey Island etc. only then this 'remake' will get my attention.
